Responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated degreed Electrical Engineer with high voltage experience to develop system repair designs, system calibration, and installation plans that allow for operations to continue. The selected candidate will work closely the NASA Glenn Research Center, High Voltage System Manager and the Facilities engineering and design group.

This involves working closely with project managers, project design engineers and maintenance staff. A key responsibility of this position is to provide a detailed review of drawings and specifications of work performed by others in order to ensure proper system integration. Additionally, the high voltage engineer will develop and lead integrated system testing of electrical systems. As requested, you will provide technical support to the GRC High Voltage System Manager and other system engineers by troubleshooting technical assets. In addition you shall review Preventative Maintenance data obtained by maintenance contractors, trend results of assets working with NASA staff such as the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Engineer and Condition based Maintenance (CBM) Engineer completing FEMA analysis and review of technical Condition Based Maintenance and Continuous Based Monitoring. Report findings and recommended path shall be presented to the GRC System Manager and System Engineers.

Individual shall have experience in High Voltage Industrial Power Systems with voltage of 2. 4kV through 13.8kV including but not limited to the following:

    Provide oversight, design, planning and maintenance of high voltage systems infrastructure such as distribution cables, control systems, protective relaying, transformers, switchgear, substations, alarms, and overall system coordination.
  • Support day to day operation of systems - provide troubleshooting/field investigations/engineering solutions to work requests. This would include identifying systemic problems and solutions.
  • Evaluating overall systems by conducting periodic system condition assessments, hazard analysis, and reliability studies.
  • Provide engineering support during implementation of the project by other contractors.
  • Quickly respond with engineering support for emergencies like forced outages and operating anomalies.
  • Provide technical assistance to safety committees with respect to their systems for operational permits and special permits. This could include applying for safety permits, making presentations to the committee, and clarifying operational and/or system questions or issues.
  • Review all systems drawings to assure design compliance with technical codes, standards, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Assist in performing appropriate failure analyses and risk assessment for systems
  • Establish and review isolation requirements to safely work in, on, or near their systems.
  • Be responsible for developing red-lined drawings as applicable to provide input of required system changes to our facilities drawing team.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD software is required (current version is R2019)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel)
  • US Citizenship
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Synergis ADEPT data management system
  • A registered Professional Engineer is preferred

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
