The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for the accounts payable function and reconciling various general ledger accounts. In addition, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for the cash settlement for the Bank, which includes managing and recording transactions related to Bank correspondent accounts including transfer of funds and borrowing activity. Other responsibilities include transmission of federal income tax and backup withholding and filing of the weekly FR2900 regulatory report. These responsibilities will be shared with the either the Senior Staff Accountant or Assistant Controller to achieve necessary cross training in all these functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accounts payable function includes:
  • Scanning/uploading invoices into AP software
  • Enter invoice information including assigning cost centers and general ledger accounts and submitting to appropriate invoice approver
  • Add new cost centers and/or general ledger accounts to the AP software
  • Print checks and create ACH files and upload to online banking
  • Upload general ledger interface file to the core system
  • Maintenance vendor records for new vendors or changes to existing vendors and document support for additions/changes
  • Manage opening/closing of accounting periods (months/years) on AP software
  • Review and process Concur expense reports
  • Communicate with employees or vendors regarding status of payments
  • Cash Management
  • Gather correspondent bank balance/activity reports
  • Prepare bank-to-bank wire transfers
  • Record general ledger entries for wire transfers, service charges and interest income and any other correspondent bank cash activity the responsibility of the Finance department
  • If in a borrowing position, consult with VP & Controller and CFO to determine amount and duration of borrowings
  • Perform test borrowing at least annually, if there have been no actual borrowings
  • On a weekly basis prepare and file FR2900 report
  • Reconcile various P&L general ledger accounts
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts assigned by supervisor and prepare quarterly sign off
  • Bi-weekly transmit federal income tax and backup withholding
  • Actively comply with all applicable laws and regulations to include the Bank Secrecy Act, the Community Reinvestment Act, and all other deposit, lending, or non-deposit service regulations; adhering to the Bank's internal policies, procedures, and risk management responsibilities contained in the Employee Handbook, the Employee Code of Conduct, and other applicable policies.
  • Prepare spreadsheet for payroll entries and process general ledger interface
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge/Abilities/Experience and Training Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in accounting or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of bank accounting practices
  • Thorough knowledge of automated accounts payable systems and processing activities
  • Familiarity of Word and Excel with the ability to update, modify and create spreadsheets
  • Strong verbal communication skills
