Video: What We Do

The Engineering Director manages and directs the Tampa Castings Engineering Team and works closely with internal and external customers as well as the facility's sales, production control, manufacturing, and quality personnel to develop and maintain sound and cost-effective processes resulting in the production of quality castings. The Director leads Engineering management and supervision which supports teams comprised of 45+ engineers, engineering technicians, and tooling specialists across two sites. The Director's primary responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, directing work, establishing metrics, team objectives, performing team appraisals, etc.

Responsibilities:




  • Guide teams to establish and maintain high-quality manufacturing processes, using simple or automated methods for monitoring and control.


  • Lead the organization towards technical excellence through example and training, fostering an environment of creativity.


  • Evaluate new ideas with proper engineering methodology, and provide active updates on the status of new jobs and programs.


  • Collaborate with Production Control and Tooling Management on scheduling and budgeting of new jobs and programs.


  • Manage key programs requiring extensive coordination and oversee engineering improvements and problem-solving related to production or NPI issues.


  • Serve as a critical stakeholder in large, impactful programs, demonstrating ownership and ensuring successful outcomes.


  • Develop and execute plans for qualifying internal manufacturing operations and/or external suppliers to meet new product introduction and quality goals.


  • Utilize the NPI tollgate process for effective implementation of new programs and upgrades.


  • Partner with Design Engineering to ensure early development of producible and effective concepts.


  • Evaluate new product needs, develop advanced technology roadmaps, and ensure design changes are validated and risks quantified before implementation.


  • Act as a technical process expert for complex problems across the supply chain, partnering with stakeholders to solve business-critical issues.


  • Identify problems, generate alternatives, and implement solutions to improve yield, reduce rework, and ensure overall product quality using a standardized approach.


  • Occasionally take a leadership role in resolving cross-functional problems.


  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by professional communication and behavior.




Education & Experience:



  • B.S. in related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years' experience in investment casting leadership. Knowledge of DS/SX (Directionally Solidified / Single Crystal) casting process, shell parameters and dimensional impact.
  • Strong leadership - ability to motivate team effectively, facilitate collaboration, and influence a solutions-oriented culture.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated capability to work with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Proficient in MS Office, CAD skills, and the ability to use data analysis and statistical process control to monitor trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
