Position Summary

This position is responsible for applying codes in the EHR for all Outpatient Surgery type accounts. Outpatient Surgery records include Surgery, Cardiac Cath Lab, Observation, Interventional Radiology, Infusion. Code assignment is based on ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and CPT coding guidelines. Ensure Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) data elements are accurate.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  1. Meets quality standards for ICD-10-CM and CPT code assignment.
  2. Codes from only compliant documentation.
  3. Maintains productivity standards to ensure A/R Day goals are met/exceeded.
  4. Follows company policies, procedures, and directives.
  5. Maintains required coding credentials.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:



  • Two years of facility outpatient surgery coding experience required.
  • Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT coding, HCPCS II.


Education/Licensure/Certification:



  • At least one of the following: AHIMA: CCS, RHIT, RHIA or AAPC: COC, CGSC required.
