Job Summary

The candidate will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the research animals (zebra finches) in experiments.

Work will be for 10 hours per week as follows:

Either 4 weekdays, 2.5hrs each day; OR 5 weekdays, 2hrs each day; between the hours of 11am-4pm due to research needs

Essential Job Duties



  • Daily check on birds in isolation chambers (including cleaning chambers, changing cages, providing feed and water, check health, check humidity and temps, ventilation, light schedule, providing enrichment)
  • Daily check on the computers using software that register the songs of the birds
  • General maintenance of the sound chamber housing rooms, including sweep and mop, prepare disinfectant solutions, stocking, labeling, and other husbandry and general maintenance duties as assigned
  • Handling birds independently, report back to researchers about any unusual findings (temp/humidity out of range, health etc.)


Basic Qualifications



  • High school diploma.
  • Affinity working with animals.
  • Responsible, reliable.
  • After initial training must work independently.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs (feed bags).


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree.

Hiring Range

$20.75 - $26.75 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
