The Assistant Director, Donor Relations (Reporting) plays a key role in highlighting groundbreaking research, innovative patient care, and exceptional education for the next generation of medical leaders at Brigham and Women's Hospital through compelling stewardship communications that update the Hospital's most generous donors on the impact of their philanthropy.

The Assistant Director prepares content for discrete reporting formats, including print, video, web, and live presentation formats, with proficiency in translating complicated ideas into accessible prose. Through program design, day-to-day management, and execution, the Assistant Director implements the latest stewardship reporting strategies to ensure a consistent and impactful donor experience while keeping colleagues aware of target dates and production schedules. The position reports to the Director of Donor Relations (Reporting).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Maintain a portfolio of complex narrative reports and comprehensive knowledge of donors in their portfolio, including all relevant reporting schedules and stewardship files.
  • Plan, write, and design impact reports that convey the impact of philanthropic support on the Hospital's mission, as well as details on specific initiatives funded by donors. Collaborate with major gift officers to determine optimal content, tone, and approach for each donor while meeting target delivery dates.
  • Serve as the lead for video impact reports, coordinating planning and production while ensuring consistent processes, branding, talking points, and production of videos.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with major gift officers to discuss reports in progress, initiate new reports, and confirm appropriate reporting schedules for new gifts. Drive all pre-meeting preparation and materials, lead meeting discussion, provide strategic guidance and decisions, and disseminate follow-up actions after the meeting.
  • As needed, interview physicians, researchers, and other healthcare professionals to gain insight into specific accomplishments, new clinical applications, and other areas of specific interest to donors.
  • Conduct independent research on scientific papers and submissions, clinical trials, and laboratory and lecture content related to donor-supported initiatives as needed.
  • As needed, assist with the annual financial endowment reporting program, including report preparation and tracking relevant reporting schedules.
  • Contribute to the evolution and execution of reporting standards and templates that ensure consistent and efficient stewardship reporting across gift types, particularly the video program.
  • Enter and maintain report-related data in the department's CRM database and use the system to assist in keeping major gift officers informed of deadlines, report status, and donor feedback.
  • Ensure delivery and uploading of final reports to CRM database.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of writing or editing experience required.
  • Experience with project management and program development required.
  • Ability to interact professionally with front-line staff and senior leaders in the development office and hospital.
  • Experience with healthcare preferred.
  • Proven track record of achieving results under deadline pressure and handling confidential information with discretion.
  • Advanced skills with the Microsoft Office suite of products and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new digital platforms and programs.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a proven track record of communicating effectively with colleagues and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and demonstrated ability in multiple projects simultaneously while working effectively under deadlines and changing priorities.
  • The ability to resolve moderately complex problems and use judgment within defined practices and procedures, and to fully apply standard principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • The ability to contribute to the fulfillment of projects and organizational objectives.
  • The ability to effectively communicate complex ideas in laypeople's terms is critical.
  • The ability to apply design elements and skills to deliver data-driven and curated reports.
  • Takes initiative and functions effectively, both independently and as a member of a team, with a willingness to assist with routine and last-minute projects.
  • Good judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information.
