Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Payroll Lead to be based out of our Wayne, MI facility. Reporting to Director of HRIS, the Payroll Lead will be responsible for processing domestic and international payrolls with speed and accuracy. The Payroll Lead will serve as the back-up for the Payroll Manager.

What you'll do:



  • Analyzes, and prepares payroll data to include garnishments, mandatory withholdings and deductions, vacation time, sick time, and applicable deductions. Utilizes automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll. Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws for union and non-union employees.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and union group reporting and payments.
  • Monitors the Payroll in-box and respond to employee pay-related inquiries in a timely manner. Answering questions from employees and supervisors regarding payroll matters
  • Reconciles payroll-related general ledger and prepares reports/statements summarizing payroll-related accounts.
  • Audits employee pay records and reconciles totals by department, location, etc.
  • Prepares journal entries and perform account reconciliations for payroll and payroll related accounts in the general ledger.
  • Assists with audits of internal records, tax filings and related documentation.
  • Look for ways to improve and develop efficiencies and maintain Standard Operation Procedures for payroll processes and procedures.
  • Assists with year-end financial audit, annual insurance audits and annual 401(k) audit preparation, and ad hoc reporting, as required.


What you'll bring:



  • BSC/BA in Business Administration.
  • Minimum of Seven years of payroll administration experience.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Multistate payroll experience
  • Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to gather and evaluate complex data and information and develop a recommendation and plan of action. Mathematical competency.
  • High degree of integrity and commitment.
  • Ability to handle information of a confidential nature and ensure that such information is secured and maintained in an appropriate manner.
  • Ability to identify and recommend changes to payroll processes and/or systems.
  • Ability to perform ad hoc reporting and other tasks as needed in a demanding financial environment.
  • A professional presence and strong interpersonal skills for interacting in a courteous, timely, and diplomatic manner with all levels of employees as well as other parties/stakeholders involved with the company.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple and often changing priorities and issues of varying complexity, while meeting time-sensitive deadlines and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks requiring strong attention to detail. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in working with payroll systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel. Proficiency in in payroll platforms such as UKG, ADP, Ceridian is desired.
  • A customer focus which demonstrates proactive, responsive services.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective team member.


Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your new hire "Immersion" ensuring complete understanding of Atkore ABS system.
  • Develop relationships with the key stakeholders for this role.
  • Have learned the fundamentals of our company's internal software and process.


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Payroll Processing for domestic and Canadian locations.
  • Process and reconcile Stock recording, Relocation, and Taxes for enterprise.
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures as required.


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Be subject matter expert for your locations and payroll process.
  • Be subject matter expert in Ultimate Kronos Group regarding payroll /timekeeping.
  • Be a back up to the Payroll Manager.
  • Act as the liaison and 'go-to' knowledge base for your HR Shared Service when it pertains to payroll matters.
