JOB SUMMARY

The AIS Application Administrator Lead serves the entire campus as the senior solutions architect for MyUCSC, our student information system, which operates on a PeopleSoft Campus Solutions platform and serves 110,000 active users (students, alumni, faculty, & staff) with numerous affiliated student systems at UC Santa Cruz. Acting as a thought leader who guides the exploration of new methodologies and technologies for these systems, this position leads the administration and integration of disparate applications within a complex AWS environment. They are responsible for translating business and technical requirements into a high-performing architecture that best serves the campus. Additionally, they help stakeholders leverage and protect sensitive student information. Utilizing broad technical expertise, they deliver and maintain resilient, secure, and responsive applications to a demanding customer base.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $126,820 - $143,050/year. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

35% - Application Administration

  • Serve as technical lead, applying expert level skills to leading the installation, configuration, troubleshooting and administration of Campus Solutions Peoplesoft and affiliated systems. Addresses the most complex analytical challenges involving multiple student systems, databases, operating systems, and abstraction layers. Applications may be SaaS, managed locally in the UCSC Data Center, or in AWS.
  • Analyzes, installs, modifies, and supports operating systems and utilities software on multiple platforms.
  • Directs, initiates, and designs all facets of system implementation plans and leads a team in implementation efforts.
  • Leads collaborative efforts with users and senior managers for the preparation, documentation, and implementation of system programming.

25% - Automation and Integration

  • Establishes and debugs highly complex integrations between Campus Solutions and other applications. Applications may reside in multiple locations on different platforms.
  • Analyzes business problems to be solved with automated systems.

25% - Systems Development

  • Researches new trends and technologies as they relate to system administration. Recommends changes in development, maintenance, and system standards.
  • Analyzes business and technical requirements for the most complex new student systems. Translates those requirements into installation and configuration specifications.

15% - Security

  • Leads and oversees security configurations for all student systems, including highly sensitive data.
  • Stays up to date on current security trends and stays informed of potential security issues.
  • Maintains a sophisticated understanding of the systems architecture. Ensures all changes and updates maintain proper security standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Expert operational experience in supporting day-to-day production/development issues.
  • Experience with source code versioning tools such as Git.
  • Experience in data integration and the specification of data services.
  • Experience with load-testing tools such as JMeter.
  • Advanced knowledge of complex 3-tier information systems, standards, and system design.
  • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure deployment, automation and management in IaaS environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of PeopleSoft (Campus Solutions and PeopleTools) and best practices.
  • Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
  • Familiarity with data quality and governance issues and requirements.
  • Demonstrated skill leading technical teams, including organizing workflow and scheduling assignments.
  • Technical skill to develop, implement and test disaster recovery functions using backup technologies.
  • Advanced database querying skills.
  • Demonstrated exemplary problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex problems, identify the root cause(s) and correct malfunctions.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with diverse individuals and teams.
  • Ability to work independently on complex technical projects.
  • Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure management tools (Cloudformation, VPC, EC2, Systems Manager, Chef, S3 Storage, Route 53).
  • Experience with Dependency Managers. e.g. Composer (PHP), Maven (Mulesoft).
  • Familiarity with logical data design and data mapping or data conversion.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
  • This is a fully remote position, and the selected candidate must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work on-call.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies after hours as necessary.
  • Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
