What your job will be like:

Do you have a passion for solving technical challenges in pursuit of groundbreaking science?At Jefferson Lab, ourEngineering Division provides technical services to the entire lab to support ongoing accelerator operations and other lab initiatives.We are seeking a skilled, self-motivated individual to join ourCryogenics Group as aMechanical Supervisor ofCryogenics Rotating Machinery. In this position, you willsupervise and lead a team of rotating machinery/mechanical technicians in the operations and maintenance of various typesof rotating and reciprocating machines such as helium screw compressors, helium reciprocating expansion engines, heliumturbines, lubricating oil pumps, and all associated components. Responsible for the coordination and acceptance of vitaldeliveries of liquid nitrogen and gaseous helium. Conduct transfers of gaseous helium among the cryogenic plants. Maintainthe cryogenic plants' piping and cold distribution systems, including manual valves and relief valves.Oversee projects and complex maintenance activities systems utilizing work control documents and safety procedures. Thisincludes active involvement in planning, organizing the workforce, and providing regular updates to management on theprogress of work based on schedule.

In this role you will:


  • Take initiative in ensuring a safe environment in liquid helium cryogenic plants
  • Maintain oil flooded screw compressors in helium service
  • Maintain reciprocating helium expansion engines
  • During an operational crisis, take charge of the cryogenic systems and organize troubleshooting teams
  • Keep maintenance records and order /track spare parts

Qualifications We Require


  • High School Diploma
  • 12 years' experience of maintenance experience with rotating machinery suchas pump, compressors, turbines and etc., including experience working as a team with technicians andengineers of various disciplines.Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Basic knowledge of relationship between the cryogenic and non-cryogenic systems.
  • Able to balance the needs of the various users of the cryogenic systems.
  • Able to contribute to engineering planning and execution of the plan.

Qualifications We Prefer:


  • Associate's degree in mechanical technology
