This position sits within the Enabling Technologies' (ET) Sensory Science group and is a leveraged function across all IFF Business Units. We are a vibrant research group with expertise in Sensory Science, Consumer Research, and Neuroscience. We collaborate with all functions of R&D and business units, providing guidance and support in the research and development of fragrances, cosmetics, flavors, food & beverages, and delivery applications and technologies.
We are looking for a Lead Neuroscientist to lead global neuro- and biometric studies focused on scientifically validating the functional benefits of IFF's ingredient and product portfolio. This position is accountable for ensuring standards of quality that meet or exceed customer expectations by adhering to strict scientific principles. Moreover, the Lead Scientist ensures compliance with IFF safety and security policies and manages relationships with other Scientists within and outside of IFF, including groups at customers and external research collaborators. The position requires some travel on an as needed basis. Key Responsibilities:
- Serving as the R&D-ET Neuroscience platform lead, driving scientifically validated Health & Wellness solutions in close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders
- Defining and implementing the data management strategy facilitating cross functional data analytics
- Managing all aspects of internal and external ethics committee review and approvals, ensuring highest standard of compliance required for conducting human subject research
- Working with leadership teams to ensure end-to-end strategic line-of-sight and alignment
- Drive new method development to advance sensory, consumer and neuroscience research & innovation in line with strategic goals and objectives
- Act as the scientific lead for cross-functional projects, translating overall project goals and strategies into well-defined work streams for direct reports and project leads
- Represent ET Sensory Science in cross-functional teams and collaborative projects
- Manage collaborative projects with industry and academic partners
Job Requirements:
- PhD in Neuroscience or related 'Sensory Science' field required. (e.g., Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science, Biomedical) is required.
- Minimum 8 years of proven track record leading neuroscience research, in neuroscience/sensory science fields OR in a related industry, academic/clinical setting.
- A solid research background with strong experimental design and data analysis skills that include both explicit and implicit methods.
- Experience working with functional brain mapping techniques, i.e., EEG, FMRI, and/or MEG, as well as related biometric tools for both in-lab and real-world psychophysiological research studies.
- Strong communication skills: Presents strategic and highly technical information/ideas to individuals or groups in an articulate, straightforward, and organized way.
- Conceptual capacity/flexibility - Quickly grasps different concepts. Flexibility in a fast-paced environment; must be able to manage multiple projects.
- Curious, knowledgably, and creative mindset and is seen as someone who applies knowledge creatively and intelligently to the solution of problems.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge or experience in R&D fragrance, flavor and/or food & beverage industries (highly preferred), consumer products, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, or pharmaceutical industry.
- At least 5 years' specifically in neuroscience related research or work experience.
