Job Description

The primary responsibilities of this position are to oversee digitization work and to apply and enhance metadata to improve access to online resources in the University Libraries' local digital repositories. Includes supervising students performing digitization and image editing and managing digitization projects. Functions independently, receiving general guidance and periodic reviews.

Key Job Duties:
Digitization work:

  • Oversees digitization lab activities, including supervising student workers and overseeing digitization work (scanning, image editing, and uploading).
  • Maintains documentation for equipment, processes, and student training activities.
  • Oversees file conversion and exchange, ensuring files are converted according to project specifications.
  • Performs digitization work.
  • Follows department standards and best practices.
  • Supervision of student workers
  • Supervises cohort of student workers performing digitization of paper material and editing of digital images.
  • Hires and evaluates student workers.
  • Develops and maintains procedures for student digitization work.

Metadata work:

  • Assists with creating records for MOspace and the MU Digital Library.
  • Enhances current records to improve access.

MOspace Institutional Repository work:

  • Provides backup for MOspace work, including adding documents and tracking projects.

Other Duties and Projects including:

  • Provides statistical and activity reports such as items scanned, records created, maintenance, and other duties.
  • Provides reports on activities related to committee work, continuing education, and work-related activities.
  • Prioritizes, organizes, and manages workload.
  • Follows established, standard guidelines to accomplish tasks and to solve problems.
  • Contributes to the libraries' overall mission of service by establishing and maintaining excellent relations with MU Libraries users and staff.
  • Contributes to the libraries overall mission of service by participating in committee work, forums, etc.
  • Keeps current on work-related matters by reading, attending training, etc.
  • Other projects as assigned.
Shift

40 hours, Mon-Fri daytime

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Photoshop to edit digital images.
  • Experience with metadata standards such as RDA, Dublin Core, MODS, and MARC.
  • Experience with relevant tools and technologies such as MarcEdit, OpenRefine, XML, Python, or other scripting or data processing tools.
  • Experience managing projects.
  • Supervisory experience.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $16.72 to $17.16 per hour

Grade: GGS-007
