Summary
Operating Title |
Postdoctoral Researcher: Charge Density Wave Quantum Dots |
Long Classification Title |
|
Campus Location |
Durham |
Department |
UNH CEPS Physics |
Summary of Position |
The Hollen group at University of New Hampshire (
UNH) has an immediate opening for a postdoc with expertise in scanning probe microscopy and/or 2D heterostructure fabrication. The project is funded by an award from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to study how charge density waves behave when laterally confined by electrostatics, strain, or physical dimensions. These targets have significant overlap with open research in quantum phases in few-layer dichalcogenides and technological interest as potential coupled quantum dot arrays. The postdoc will be expected to work closely with graduate and undergraduate students at
UNH to create samples for study using a new inert glovebox system and perform low temperature, ultra-high vacuum scanning probe microscopy (
SPM) experiments. The postdoc will also work with the group to extend our experimental capabilities to electrostatic force microscopy, scanning tunneling potentiometry, and time-resolved measurements of quantum dot charge and spin lifetimes using voltage pump-probe techniques.
Duties and responsibilities:
* Prepare samples for study and execute scanning probe experiments
* Analyze results in context of literature, prepare reports, presentations, and publications
* Present work in progress and results at collaborator meetings, conferences, and Moore Foundation events
* Train undergraduate and graduate students in project-relevant techniques
* Project management: make decisions about day-to-day tasks and advise students to drive Project forward
* Lab development: collaboratively learn and implement new techniques |
