Entry-Level Construction Materials Engineering Technician

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate entry-level Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This entry-level position is perfect for those eager to gain hands-on experience and grow in a dynamic environment. As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you'll primarily work outdoors, contributing to projects and ensuring their safety and quality. Your efforts will be rewarded as you see projects come to life and gain valuable experience.

Your Daily Tasks:



  • Plan and Document Review: Understand project requirements before fieldwork; accurately record observations and test results related to construction materials.
  • Metafield Utilization: Efficiently manage data using field and laboratory information systems.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure field and lab tools are accurate and meet industry standards.
  • Special Inspection Observations: Follow International Building Code (IBC) standards for testing and inspecting construction materials.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Engage with management, contractors, and clients to report project progress and address any concerns.



What You Bring:



  • A High School diploma/GED
  • 0-2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • One(1) or more active certifications, a plus:

    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
    • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
    • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete


  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • Math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
