The Career Services Center at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Employer Relations.

About the Opportunity
Serve on the Career Services leadership team, with primary responsibility for policy, leadership, and direction of all employer relations, corporate outreach, and all activities related to employment events and programs. Establish annual recruiting goals and develop strategies to best meet these goals. Supervise and manage the employer relations team (when applicable) and contribute to the strategic planning and program development under the direction and support of the Director.

What You'll Do

Employer Relations and Corporate Outreach



  • Lead coordination of all on-campus employer visits including career fairs, on-campus interviews, and employer-sponsored events.
  • Work with campus constituents, including academic units, Central Corporate Relations, Alumni Association, WVU Foundation, and others to identify potential employers with the intent of encouraging them to recruit and foster professional relationships at WVU.
  • In collaboration with the director, generate revenues through career fair fees as well as solicitation of sponsorships and philanthropic gifts.
  • Develop effective outreach strategies by identifying employment needs by reviewing current employment data and by conducting independent research related to domestic and international employment trends.
  • Responsible for the oversight of vetting and approving all employers and job postings on the Center's current Career Services Management platform (Handshake).
  • In collaboration with the Director, assess, review, and modify the Center's employer outreach strategies as needed.
  • In collaboration with the career pathway team, maintain an open dialogue with WVU faculty, administrators, and student leaders in the academic units to ensure that a balance exists between the supply and demand of employers and job seekers within individual majors.
  • Arrange visits to regional alumni chapters as warranted to identify ways in which the chapters and their individual members can benefit from and/or contribute to the strategic goals of the CSC.
  • Monitor employer satisfaction to implement upgrades and improvements as necessary.
  • Develop both internship and permanent employment opportunities for students through active marketing to alumni and corporate communities.
  • Benchmark employer development, internship, and co-op processes with other universities.
  • In collaboration with the Director, work directly with academic units to support and nurture existing employer partnerships, and to identify new employers for the purpose of connecting virtually, arranging for campus visits, or coordinating off-campus site visits.
  • Consult regularly with employers to help determine recruitment strategies and services that best meet their needs, fielding general recruitment questions and concerns.
  • Serve on various college and university committees as requested or assigned.


On-Campus Recruiting and Career Fairs



  • Oversee all on-campus and virtual recruiting. Help employers identify the most appropriate and effective career event and programming based on their talent needs and expertise as it relates to the interests and job search patterns of WVU students and alumni.
  • Serve as the employer relations point-of-contact for all college placement centers and associated staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all visiting employers, are met with a friendly and effective experience.
  • Exhibit and foster a strong customer service approach for employers insuring a positive and professional environment within the Center to guarantee employer satisfaction.
  • Manage the employer portal on current CSM platform (Handshake), facilitate the registration process, and assist employers and staff with employer-related Handshake functionality.
  • Oversee interview schedule postings; resume submission, pre-select completion, to ensure that schedule postings and student signups are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of the Career Services calendar for all employer activities scheduled.
  • Oversee and manage the planning and operation of all career fairs and employer-related events
  • When needed, request assistance with logistical, parking/transportation, and/or hospitality support from the assistant director of operations, for employer-facing career fairs and events.
  • Identify times, dates, and locations for all career fairs that accommodate the applicable academic schedules, also considering employer hiring trends, and potential campus-wide conflicts.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase the quality and quantity of employer participation in career fairs, with an emphasis on quality.


Day to Day Operations



  • Oversee and manage all employer-related activities throughout the academic year.
  • In conjunction with the Director, establish annual goals. Create strategies to ensure goals are met, and track and report on all relevant goals.
  • In collaboration with the CSC leadership team, exercise functional responsibility for developing and administering a comprehensive program of career activities including strategic planning, budget recommendations, staffing and support operations, and acting on behalf of the Director as assigned.
  • Upon request of the Director, oversee day-to-day operations that are consistent with the mission of Career Services and the broader vision of the University as a student-centered learning community.


Marketing and Communication



  • Assist the communications manager with the marketing efforts of Career Services.
  • Help with the creation and implementation of all marketing efforts of the Center including print and website.
  • Oversee all marketing and communication efforts to current and prospective employers.
  • Collaborate with other University departments and College career development offices to ensure quality and consistency of events.
  • In collaboration with the director, maintain an open dialogue and act as a liaison between employers, faculty, staff, and University career development offices.
  • Evaluate in-house employer and student data collected to compile placement data and to measure
    quality of service.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business administration, human resources, public relations, communications or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:

    • Experience within a university or business/industry environment involving career and employment issues, sales/marketing, or other business development functions.


  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
