Title:Senior Maintenance Mechanic (1st Shift) Division: Finance and Administration Department: Facility Operations and Planning FLSA Status:Non-Exempt Salary Range:Grade 10: $20.57/hour EEO Job Group:6 E7 Position Summary The University of Southern Indiana seeks applications for a Senior Maintenance Mechanic to perform skilled maintenance tasks in support of structural systems, and equipment maintenance, renovations and rehabilitations, and instructional programs in a multi-building University complex. Duties/Responsibilities
- Tend to the preventive and general needs for maintenance of the University's structures, equipment, furnishings, and systems and for various assignments for repair and rehabilitation projects.
- Keystone Web Computer Software.
- Perform routine door maintenance including adjusting doors, closures, openers, panic devices, and oiling door hinges and pivots.
- Work from blueprints, drawings, work orders, or oral instructions to construct and repair University assets.
- Plan, execute, and coordinate personnel and oversee basic building maintenance and renovation projects, determine tasks, making layouts, and estimating materials and labor costs.
- Able to schedule materials, labor, equipment, and personnel to complete a given task.
- Assemble furniture, seats, and other equipment.
- Perform welding on various materials using assortment of different types of welding machines.
- Set up furniture and equipment for special and academic events.
- Perform carpentry tasks related to maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and construction projects for buildings, equipment, furniture, and systems.
- Perform plumbing tasks related to maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and construction projects for buildings, equipment, and systems.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Vocational training and/or 4 years' experience in trades including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and/or heating and air conditioning required.
- Possess extensive knowledge of practices, procedures, materials, tools, and skills from a variety of trades required. Ability to perform functions of those trades and coordinate those trades on the same project/job.
- Ability to plan and layout job assignments required.
- Possess excellent troubleshooting skills to solve issues related to renovations, construction, repairs, and general maintenance in various building systems.
- Possess and show expert knowledge in the proper construction/maintenance techniques and procedures for various tasks, (setting doors, installing trim, hanging drywall, framing walls - wood and steel, building and installing cabinets, manufacturing countertops, hanging items on walls, installing ceiling tiles and grid systems, setting ceramic/granite tile, laying out and installing carpet squares and flooring, repairing windows/siding/guttering, repairing various types of roofs - (asphalt shingles, rubber, PVC), and forming, pouring, patching concrete.
- Ability to work productively unsupervised.
- Valid driver's license required.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Four years' experience in journey level of a trade listed preferred.
Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements
Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Occasional irregular hours or overtime may be required to complete work orders. This position is considered essential. When the University closes due to inclement weather or another emergency, this position is required to report to work to perform snow and/or ice removal or other clean-up work following severe weather or other emergencies.
