About the unit The Ludington Emergency Team has 59 staff, seeing about 20,000 pts/year, we are a designated level IV trauma center and a primary stroke center. The emergency department at Ludington Hospital features sixteen state-of-the-art treatment areas, including two trauma rooms. We are able to provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, intensive care and stabilization of injured patients and emergency procedures. In addition, we have developed transfer agreements, including emergency helicopter transport services, for patients requiring more comprehensive care at a Level I or Level II trauma center. Scope of WorkThis will be a crosstrained role. The Nursing Technician role is a fast-paced role requiring strong communication and teamwork skills. Nurse Techs provide direct patient care, and duties will include Taking Vitals, Checking Blood Sugar, Wound Care, Bed bathing, Toileting, Ambulating, Catheterization, and acting as safety attendant for patients as needed. Additionally, you could be involved in Postmortem care. In our Emergency Department, you may also be responsible for doing EKGs, Changing over rooms/Cleaning. Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. All new Nurse Techs in our Emergency Department are cross trained to provide unit support in the unit secretary role also. Unit Secretary Responsibilities include taking phone calls, helping with directions to all visitors or outside team members to the unit (lab, radiology, patient transport, nutrition services, environmental services), calling support when directed by clinical staff, assisting with discharge, admit, and transfer paperwork, ordering supplies, ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked, answering call lights. Working in this capacity in our Emergency Department provides opportunities for personal, professional, and educational growth for our staff. Many of our NTs are actively in nursing and other allied health programs and their responsibilities and activities in the ED provide them with significant clinical experience that helps build their knowledge, understanding, and comfort in the clinical setting.
