Overview

The Fabrication Technician I is responsible for the fabrication of optical components under the direction of qualified trainer, a supervisor or a manager.



Responsibilities

Essential Functions: under the oversight of their trainer until qualified to perform Level I fabrication skillsets on their own.

    Perform basic setups and make minor program and tool offset changes as needed
  • Operate production equipment IAW SOPs and job routings
  • Perform visual inspections of optics for defects related to fabrication
  • Use basic measuring equipment to measure parts accurately
  • Through cross training, become proficient in other manufacturing equipment to serve as backup to primary technician(s)
  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency in basic skill areas of fabrication after completing their training in grinding, polishing, basic metrology, documentation understanding, and microscope use.
  • May be required to use a ladder to organize or obtain supplies
  • May be required to use shop and power tools
  • Participate in 6S activities which include but are not limited to cleaning, organizing, sweeping, and mopping work area
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations


Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to read and understand spec sheets, blue prints, work orders and work instructions
  • Ability to think critically
  • Strong arithmetic; working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry a plus
  • Demonstrate necessary manual dexterity and visual acuity to skillfully execute processes
  • General computer skills
  • Knowledge of G-Code & M-Code programming, CADCAM programming, and MS Excel is a plus

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Some technical schooling preferred
  • 1+ years in manufacturing or QA related environment preferred

Physical Requirements:

Adequate manual dexterity to perform essential functions; ability to use some physical efforts in the handling of heavy materials and machinery (most tasks require no more than 50 lbs. lifting); position requires about 80% standing; ability to work in manufacturing environment.

Other Requirements:

  • Work overtime as required
  • US Citizenship or permanent residence required
