The Nuclear Threat Initiative is seeking a Director, with a focus on Nuclear Energy, to join the Nuclear Materials Security (NMS) team. This position reports to the Vice President for NMS. This is a full-time hybrid position, working a minimum of three days a week in our Washington, DC office. NTI is a non-profit global security organization focused on reducing nuclear, biological, and emerging technology threats imperiling humanity. This selected candidate will help lead NMS efforts to improve global nuclear materials security, specifically in the area of nuclear energy. This will include: • Developing and implementing activities related to the responsible and safe expansion of nuclear energy, focusing primarily on the area of spent fuel management and safeguards. • Developing and implementing activities related to building capacity in international institutions related to nuclear security and nonproliferation. • Working in close coordination with external partners. • Representing NTI at professional conferences and international meetings with governments, NGOs, and international organizations. • Planning and implementing NMS program activities, including establishing milestones and mitigating project risks, as well as other project management tasks. • Supporting programmatic/cross-programmatic efforts to ensure the achievement of NTI objectives. • Providing support to other NMS projects, as needed. What are the requirements for the position? Preferred candidates will have: • A bachelors’ degree, masters’ preferred, in a relevant field (e.g., international relations/affairs, political science, physics, or a related field) and • At least 8 years of related experience in an international organization, government, non-profit, or private sector working directly on nuclear-related issues What would make you stand out? • You can demonstrate tangible examples of how you have helped enhance global nuclear security and nonproliferation. • You have experience engaging and working closely with international and domestic stakeholders to drive toward actionable policy outcomes. • You have strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated capacity to think creatively and develop and execute new, innovative projects. • You can juggle multiple projects with competing deadlines, and you have strong interpersonal skills This position will require regular international and domestic travel.
