Department of Teacher Education at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position, specializing in Special Education, starting Fall Semester 2025. The goal of the UT Teacher Education Department is to prepare its students to be outstanding teachers within diverse and changing communities through the integration of leadership, scholarship, reflection, and community partnerships. The Special Education program is a new major added to two existing top-performing pre-service teacher preparation programs with stable enrollment in the UT Teacher Education Department. Faculty in the Department collaborate closely to support student success and Special Education majors will take several courses alongside Elementary Education majors. The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to inclusive policies, programs, and practices. Responsibilities
-
- Teach various courses for the Special Education program as well as general pedagogy prerequisite courses as needed for the Department of Teacher Education. Special Education courses may include, but are not limited to, Program Planning and Implementation, Transition Planning, Social and Behavior Skills Training, Evidence-based methods for reading, writing, and mathematics Instruction, and Effective Teaching Strategies for students with mild/moderate disabilities.
- Assist in the development of new curriculum and the building of the Special Education major.
- Assist in meeting, aligning and maintaining requirements of national accreditation, as well as state and national Department of Education teacher education standards.
- Work with local school district personnel to ensure the UT Special Education program successfully prepares students to teach students with Mild/Moderate Disabilities in a K-12 setting.
- Supervise and mentor students in field experience settings.
- Be willing and able to teach courses in an online and/or blended format competently.
- Fulfill faculty responsibilities including holding office hours, advising students, attending faculty and other University meetings, and serving on university, college, and department committees.
- Fulfill University requirements for Review, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) based on teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Provide regular institutional service as outlined in Regent and University policy.
- Adhere to department, college, and university policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director or department chair.

Qualifications

- Doctorate degree in Special Education. A Doctorate in Teacher Education or related field may be considered with Licensure and experience in Mild/Moderate Special Education. Applicants who are advanced ABD candidates will also be considered if degree completion will occur by August 1, 2024.
- Minimum of three (3) years or equivalent experience teaching students with disabilities in grades K-12.
- Demonstrated ability in successful teaching. Finalists will be required to demonstrate competence through a teaching demonstration.
- Demonstrated ability and interest in creative, unique, and effective approaches to teacher education.
- Candidates must have excellent knowledge and skills with technology, including online instruction.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing.
- Good organizational and time management skills.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $60,000-$64,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
