What your job will be like:
The incumbent will be responsible for developing, implementing and leading new data science projects. Contribute to the strategy and direction for the laboratory's data science capabilities in alignment with the overall mission to ensure that the Lab is well-positioned to achieve research goals and take leadership roles in future DOE data science initiatives.

In this role you will:


  • Be responsible for developing, implementing and leading data science projects. Contribute to the strategy and direction for the laboratory's data science capabilities in alignment with strategic plans to ensure that the Lab is well-positioned to achieve research goals and contribute significantly to future DOE data science initiatives.
  • Provide key contributions to the data sience department program development efforts, including contributing to on-going AI/ML in support of the 12 GeV science program, the Electron Ion Collider (EIC) detector design, and the High Performance Data Facility (HPDF).
  • Guide and provide ultimate direction as the Lab's Subject Matter Expert and technical resource for data science program and projects.
  • Be responsible for developing competences in operational and/or applied mathematics data science core in order to support the program.
  • Be responsible for attracting external funding in data science projects.

Qualifications We Require:
Education:


  • Master's Degree in Computer Science orother relevant field
  • Ph.D. preferred.

Experience:


  • 12 or more years related experience with considerable work specific to developing scientific computing applications and/or data science.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Recognized technical expertise in data science with recognized expertise in one or more additional areas of scientific computing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computational infrastructure and applications applicable to large scale experimental facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and implementation of a data science portfolio aligned with overall institutional objectives.
  • Ability to interact across organizational levels including senior leadership and effectively form partnerships with external partners.
  • Must possess exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Successful history in attracting funding.
  • Prior experience in DOE or National Lab environment is highly desired.
