Summary:

Goldbelt Frontier LLC seeks a highly skilled science writer for an anticipated five-year project supporting the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). As a science writer, you will be crucial in communicating complex scientific information to diverse audiences, contributing to public understanding and informed decision-making in public health matters.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Content Creation: Produce precise, accurate, and engaging written content on a wide range of scientific topics relevant to the Department of Health and Human Services mission. This may include articles, reports, fact sheets, blog posts, press releases, and other materials.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on scientific topics, staying abreast of the latest developments and evidence-based practices in relevant fields such as epidemiology, public health, biotechnology, healthcare policy, and medical research.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with subject matter experts, scientists, policymakers, and communications professionals within HHS and partner organizations to ensure the accuracy, relevance, and accessibility of written materials.
  • Adaptation: Tailor scientific information for diverse audiences, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, journalists, and the public, employing appropriate language, tone, and format.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all written materials adhere to high accuracy, clarity, scientific integrity, and compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
  • Communication Support: Support HHS communications initiatives, including responding to media inquiries, drafting talking points, preparing briefing materials, and assisting with public outreach campaigns as needed.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines and priorities while maintaining attention to detail and quality.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of scientific principles, research methodologies, and evidence-based practices, with the ability to translate complex technical information into accessible and compelling content for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software tools for writing, editing, and content management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in science communication, journalism, biology, public health, or a related discipline.
  • Three (3) years of experience in science writing, science communication, health journalism, or related fields beyond education.
  • US Citizen (by birth or naturalization).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in relevant area of study.
  • Familiarity with federal government communications processes, policies, and regulations.
  • Three (3) years of work experience as a writer within a healthcare or federal government setting.

The salary range for this position is $105,000 to $158,000 per year.
