Department Information
The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology & Emory University in Atlanta, GA, invites applications to our The Laboratory for Synthetic Immunity (LSI) is an interdisciplinary research group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech & Emory School of Medicine. Founded in 2014 by Director Dr. Gabe Kwong, the mission of LSI is to pioneer the next wave of immunotherapies and diagnostics to intercept diseases at an early stage and develop treatments that drive deep responses to meaningfully improve patient outcomes.

We are currently seeking multiple exceptional individuals to join our research group as a Research Technician in Atlanta, GA. The candidate will be a motivated technician with a strong desire to contribute to the design, execution, and interpretation of results of various molecular and cellular assays related to the development of biosensors for early cancer detection. The individual may work on multiple projects in parallel at various stages of development.

Job Summary

Perform a variety of technical activities required for conducting tests and experiments in a school or research laboratory within the Institute. Includes data collection and analyses, experiment preparation and equipment setup and operation. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and research faculty, co-workers. This position typically will advise and counsel: NA. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Gather, compile and summarize data in conjunction with assigned scientific tests, experiments, etc

Job Duty 2 -
Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related records..

Job Duty 3 -
Operate various equipment used in research studies.

Job Duty 4 -
Participate as directed in experiment design and preparation.

Job Duty 5 -
Participate as directed in preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

Job Duty 6 -
Maintain laboratory equipment.

Job Duty 7 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
One to two years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in a life science discipline (Biology, Bioengineering, Immunology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, etc.) with two or more years of laboratory experience.
  • Proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques including cloning, mini/maxi preparations, nucleic acid extraction, gel electrophoresis.
  • Proficiency in cell biology techniques including mammalian cell culture, characterization, and manipulation.
  • Experience with weighing compounds, making reagents/solutions, and sterilization.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, time-management, and collaboration skills required.
  • Experience with multi-flow cytometry a plus.

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of research lab equipment and support processes and practices. Includes skill in data organization, statistical analysis and use of statistical and scientific computer applications.

Other Information

  • Perform molecular cloning, including construct purification, vector construction, nucleic acid preparation, sequencing, QC, and interpretation.
  • Produce, characterize and titer viruses for human cell transduction and engineering.
  • Perform culture, characterization, and manipulation of human cells. Aid in the validation of sense-and-respond biocircuits in human cells by flow cytometry and in vitro assays.
  • Support other molecular and cellular experiments and studies.
  • Support lab management including maintaining supplies, reagents, and cells.
  • Document the design, methodology, and results of experiments in electronic lab notebooks.
  • Participate in regular internal project meetings with team members.

Salary range: $17.00 - $27.00 / hourly

Location: Onsite (Atlanta, GA)
