Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs has primary responsibility for shaping and implementing the University's global strategy while supporting global activity across campus. Units and teams that report to the Vice Provost for Global Affairs include Global Partnerships, Global Education, Exchange and Sponsored Programs, Global Communications, Global Research Institute, International Student and Scholar Services, UNC World View, Duke- UNC Rotary Peace Center, and the OVPGA UBC: shared services/unified business cluster.
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Accounting Technician for the shared services/unified business cluster ( UBC) in the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs ( OVPGA), an independent operating unit within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. Under the guidance of the Director of Finance and Operations, this position is responsible for financial tracking and management for externally funded programs, internally funded award programs, and funding commitments from the Chancellor's Global Education Fund. The Accounting Technician conducts a variety of tasks involving budget preparation, financial transactions, tracking, and reporting in support of the University's global mission.

Externally Funded Programs: The Accounting Technician handles pre-award and post award grant administration externally funded grant programs, fee-for-service contracts, and other external funding activities; reviews guidelines specific to each funding opportunity and funding entity, creates timeline with the principal investigator(s) to meet submission deadlines, creates a program budget based on information provided by the principal investigator(s). The Accounting Technician also handles post-award administration of grants, fee-for-service contracts, and other external funding awards: Manages program budget, tracks expenses, processes all payments (including faculty overload and summer salary payments), reconciles budget each month, tracks cost sharing, works with OSP to prepare financial reports to funding entities according to guidelines.

Internally Funded Award Programs: Partnering with relevant OVPGA colleagues with responsibility for various programming areas, the Accounting Technician is responsible for award tracking and funds disbursement for:
* Global Partnership Awards (exploration and expansion grants)
* Seed fund awards for activity with specific international partners
* Curriculum development awards for Collaborative Online International Learning ( COIL) to faculty and graduate students
* Other COIL funding distribution ( COIL Faculty Fellows, COIL publication awards, COIL conference awards)
* Curriculum development awards for the Diplomacy Initiative to faculty and graduate students
* Other Diplomacy Initiative funding distribution (cost of case study and simulation materials, other)
Chancellor's Global Education Fund: Tracks all funding commitments from the Fund made by the Vice Provost for Global Affairs; disburses funding commitments to campus partners; tracks revenue to the Fund. Provides accurate quarterly reports to the Director for Finance & Ops. The Accounting Technician may be assigned to track other trust funds in OVPGA and conduct transactions as requested.

Transactions require the Accounting Tech to maintain cost codes and program codes for various OVPGA activities for efficient tracking and reporting. The Accounting Tech is responsible for providing accurate and up-to-date reports (ad hoc and at established intervals) as requested by the Director, OVPGA leadership and program leads to inform budget planning and execution.

This position works closely and communicates clearly with all members of the UBC team,other staff, and campus colleagues to ensure the success of OVPGA programming; provides excellent customer service; stays informed and compliant with federal, state, UNC System and UNC-Chapel Hill policies; and adheres to guidelines provided by various funding entities. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director and unit leadership.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices is required. Considerable knowledge of state and university budgeting practices and processing of fiscal documents, maintenance of financial records and the preparation of fiscal reports. Ability to understand, interpret and apply specific rules and regulations governing the processing of fiscal documents, the maintenance of financial records, and preparation of fiscal reports.

Advanced Excel skills, including the use of macros, cell and file linking capabilities and pivot tables. Fluency in MS Office Suite.

Excellent analytic, organizational, and communications skills (written and verbal).

Must be customer-service oriented and remain calm and approachable despite work pressures and deadlines. Must be solution-oriented and supportive of management and team members.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Exceptional customer service orientation. Close attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team.

Prior experience with grants and awards management. Experience working in accounting in a higher education setting. Experience with UNC finance systems.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to work reliably during the designated work hours and in-person on campus. Must be able to focus, follow tasks through to completion, and meet deadlines.
