Summary of Position |
Keene State College invites applications for a Film Equipment & Operations Manager to plan, manage and supervise the use of production equipment to support the teaching of film, video, and animation courses in the Film Studies department. This is a full-time benefited position. The position start date is on/after June 9, 2025.
Additional responsibilities include: equipment research and purchasing management, equipment checkout room management, professional training, supervision of student worker(s), technical support for Film Society and visiting artist events, and computer lab liaison and management. |

Other minimum qualifications |
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum two years' professional experience in media technology/equipment support.
- Experience in media technology and equipment management - including film and video production gear (HD/2K/4K video and16mm film), media hardware (players and projectors), and computer hardware and software.
- Experience conducting and presenting research about industry-standard equipment purchase options.
- Experience in repair and maintenance options for film and video equipment; ability to promote cost-saving and maintain positive relationships with vendors.
- Experience managing computer labs, including an expert ability with Mac and PC platforms and a broad array of production software (Adobe Creative Cloud, Avid Media Composer, ProTools, DaVinci Resolve, Dragonframe, and Microsoft Office).
- Demonstrated ability to use and maintain equipment reservation and inventory systems, as well as media library database management.
- Experience with and ability to design and offer training on new, industry-standard professional equipment.
- Experience supervising student or other workers - training, creating schedules, approval of timesheets.
- Experience with academic budgets, purchasing, purchase orders, and vendors.
- Excellent organizational, supervisory, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Have a passion for filmmaking
- Ability to lift 50lbs.

Additional Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with film and video projection, specifically 16mm, 35mm, and DCI-compliant DCP.
- Professional experience with WebCheckout, an equipment reservation and inventory system.
- Experience with16mm film production.
- Experience maintaining professional editing, sound, and color grading suites.
- Two years supervisory experience with student workers in media production.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism in an academic environment.
- Ability to learn new processes quickly.

Salary Information |

* Research equipment purchases for Film Studies and its facilities, using professional expertise, user experience, and understanding of how best to expand the
overall equipment holdings of the department.
* Through self-learning, professional networks, and conferences, keep abreast of new technological developments in production and post-production.
* Collaborate with Film faculty to brainstorm, develop, and update, a multi-year long-term equipment plan that supports departmental instructional goals.
* Devise methods through which the department can continually revise its production goals to offer the highest quality instruction to students, given available resources and funding.
* Recommend, drawing on professional expertise and knowledge of changing conditions in the industry, equipment purchases that will best contribute to film education at
KSC, as well as the employability of graduates. |

* Supervise all aspects of the Equipment Checkout Room.
* Evaluate current usage patterns of equipment and Equipment Checkout Room facilities for areas that need improvement in relation to efficiency, safety, and equipment
conservation.
* Assess, create, and implement improvements to Equipment Checkout Room procedures, layout, and systems to best support instruction at
KSC.
* Assess the functionality of all equipment held in the equipment room through testing and troubleshooting for problems.
* Where possible, repair such equipment using your own mechanical knowledge and expertise.
* Where necessary, research and determine the best options for repair of broken equipment.
* Research the logistical and budgetary options for the repair of equipment with outside vendors, while determining how to best preserve the highest and best amount of
equipment in usable condition for department faculty and students.
*Assess, improve, and promote Equipment Checkout Room, computer lab, and departmental safety policies.
* Build and maintain a library of relevant technical literature, including instruction manuals and training modules, to support the needs of students and faculty.
* Determine best practices and procedures for the resolution of any Equipment Checkout Room infractions, especially relative to overdue and damaged equipment. Implement such systems in collaboration with faculty and student workers.
* Implement and supervise the enforcement of all Equipment Checkout Room policies and other ways to promote accountability and diminish the occurrences of theft and damages.
* Compile and maintain an annual and complete inventory of all departmental equipment (including important access to Serial Number information).
* Provide remedial instruction to students in technical use of equipment available through the Equipment Checkout Room, as needed.

* Create specialized training modules for students and faculty in the proper use of equipment including cameras, lighting, audio, and editing systems.
* Create and conduct professional training of students via multiple capacities: as supervisor of student workers in the Equipment Checkout Room, Film Library, and labs; and projection booth training as Film Society co-advisor. |

* Evaluate and plan the purchasing of equipment to realize the long-term teaching and learning goals of faculty and students.
* Coordinate the complexity of equipment purchases with equipment repairs and regular maintenance.
* Analyze, troubleshoot, manage, and communicate which purchases, repairs, maintenance have been received, paid for, and/or completed, to both Film faculty and the administrative assistant.
* Create and submit purchase orders, requisitions, and invoices and ensure timely delivery of all equipment.
* Represent the department by communicating with internal and external contacts for equipment purchases in collaboration with the Film Chair.
* Evaluate all vendor invoices with quantity received and inventory of items.
* Maintain records of all equipment purchases and associated documents (warranties, etc.).
* Collaborate with administrative assistant on adding vendors and building and facilities policies. |

* Assess and improve the inventory and checkout systems in the Film Library, a space that contains DVDs/Blu-rays, books, and journals used by students and faculty for classroom and project use.
* Assess, revise, and publicize the operational policies and procedures for the Film Library.
* Manage the acquisitions of DVDs, Blu-rays, books, and journals.
* Assess, revise, and improve the use of the viewing station in the Film Library, and implement the optimal configuration to support students and faculty.
* Back-up and archive the Film Library collection of digital media resources.
* Facilitate faculty use of digital media resources for teaching, as needed. |

* Hire, train and supervise student workers for the Equipment Checkout Room, Film Library, and labs.
* Supervise the completion of and submit hiring paperwork.
* Coordinate student worker facilities access throughout the Media Arts Center, Putnam, and Drenan with the administrative assistant.
* Oversee the completion of student worker timesheets and approval of timesheets.
* Supervise and ensure that student workers are working when they say they are.
* Create and publicize each semester's schedule of workers for the Equipment Checkout Room, Film Library, and labs.

* Advocate for and improve the cleanliness and functioning of the lab spaces.

* Plan and collaborate on regular multi-workstation software installation/upgrades for the labs, in collaboration with ET&S personnel.
