We're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our ever-evolving Value-Added Payments Site Reliability Engineering team to help us unleash the potential of every business.

About the team

Our Product and Technology teams are the Worldpayers behind the game-changing products and digital experiences we're best known for. Striving for better, they never stand still - delivering impactful innovations that power transactions across the world.

The team is part of the application support team for the VAP (Value Added Payments) platform and is responsible for identifying areas for improvement in the application environment which is running all the platform services. While not an on-call team, we proactively provide troubleshooting and investigation of production application/system issues. As a proactive extension of the existing reactive 24 x 7 on-call team, we identify/report larger issues, and work with development teams to design an appropriate solution. We also provide our own fixes for smaller issues to improve the reliability of the system.

What you'll own

You will be troubleshooting and investigating production (which runs 24 x 7) application/system issues where stability, reputation management and security are critical to the ongoing success of the business. You will be involved in coordination and implementation of essential production application maintenance tasks and proactively identify improvements and enhancements to working practices. You will interact with engineering groups to assist in design changes to software and/or equipment.

  • You will be responsible for providing operational automation support for the eCommerce Value-Added Payments Platform (VAP).

  • Play an active role in team initiatives and be accountable for the work committed to.

  • Work as part of a team to seek resolution of production tasks.

  • Identify areas for improvements and suggest more efficient ways of working.

  • Provide development solutions to introduce application improvements.

  • Assist with maintenance tasks to ensure our platform remains secure and compliant.

Where you'll own it

This position is initially remote (work-from-home), however we expect to open an office at some point in the Greater Boston area (Burlington, MA). Therefore, you should be able to commute to the Greater Boston area so that we can have in-person collaboration when an office is open.

What you bring

* A minimum of 5 years of experience supporting applications which are written in an object-oriented language (preferably Java) and utilize a relational database

* Experience with SQL and relational database design - preferably DB2 or Oracle

* User level experience with the Linux/UNIX operating system

* Experience with scripting languages such as shell, perl, python, etc.

* A mindset/desire to improve application systems reliability and automate manual support tasks, to facilitate continuous improvement and innovation

* A flexible approach is necessary for the role as determined by production issues

* A proactive approach to all areas of work

* Experience with end-to-end systems development life cycles (SDLC) and standards.

* Experience working on development tasks providing technical solutions to overcome problems

* Track record in delivering work to schedule and specification

* Curiosity - asking the right questions, listening and learning to get better every day.

Preferred Skills:

  • *Eager to learn and improve skillset

  • Knowledge of financial industry practices, regulations and operations

  • Understanding and awareness of PCI DSS compliance

  • Experience with Apache/Tomcat web services

  • ITIL Service Management processes

  • Automation experience

  • Experience in Sprint (Agile) planning activities

  • A bachelor's in computer engineering, computer science or other related discipline or equivalent experience.
