Sr Mechanical Engineer (Switchgear)

Our client is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Switchgear



  1. Mechanical Engineer with a background in Electrical Power Distribution (years of experience matter less to me than competence level and quality of those years).
  2. Background using/referencing National electric code. Its not hard to read but knowing what it is saying is a skill in and of itself.

    1. They should be comfortable sizing cables and Overcurrent Protection Devices (OCPDs).
    2. They should understand the purpose and importance of grounding Main Bonding Jumper & Ground Electrode Conductor (MBJ & GEC).


  3. UL 891 or UL67 or UL 1558 experience.

    1. Experience with 800 Amp and larger electrical equipment.
    2. Field experience around live equipment.
    3. Submetering experience (Satec, Quad Logic, Client, Siemens, SquareD).


  4. Knowledge of BoltSwitches or Fused Devices and Circuit breakers.
  5. Autodesk Experience preferred.
  6. Leadership experience (One or two people is fine, doesn't have to be crazy).


Wants:

  • Busway measurements,
  • Local OEM experience (not one of the nationals)
  • Coordination Study Experience
  • Maybe they came from a background as with an electrical contractor like I did


Qualifications:




  • This position requires 5-7 years of design experience for custom electrical enclosures, switchgear, or panel boards





  • BSEE or BSME, required





  • Preferred working knowledge of UL 891, UL 1558, and/or UL 67 is considered a plus





  • The ideal candidate has experience in one of the following product segments:





  • Prior experience in Low Voltage Switchgear, Switchboard design





  • Power, energy, defense, utilities and/or control industries





  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment





  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills





  • Must have working experience with 3-D Cad software such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks or equivalent software





  • Strong verbal presentation, writing and computer application skills





Primary Job Responsibilities:




  • Provide design direction for customer review drawings to meet consumer needs and manufacturing demands





  • Previous experience mentoring and leading a team of mechanical engineers





  • Develop and design 3D models specific for switchboard assembly





  • Experience in electrical systems, circuit breakers, component wiring, and busbar routing





  • Actively contributes to product design as a member of the technical team on product development projects





  • Regular adherence to procedures in the Quality Management Systems (QMS)





  • Continuous assessment of opportunities for improvement
