School of Dentistry Faculty Clinic

Job Description

* Provides chair-side assistance to dentists in teaching dental students to complete auxiliary utilization and acts as a team leader; instructs other dental assistants and auxiliaries in various methods of teaching auxiliary utilization.

* Understands how the team integrates with others to accomplish team objectives

* Maintains records and analyzes results of medical tests/programs, providing to supervisor upon request

* Exercises judgment, based on previous experience, practices and precedents, to identify and solve problems that arise with little or no precedent

* Impacts the quality, timeliness and effectiveness of the team

* Provides relevant medical education to patients, patients' families and the public

* Prepare patients for dental treatment

* Prepares patient operatory using compliant OSHA, CDC, and ADA sterilization techniques

* Monitors and helps sterilize all dental instruments.

* Helps monitor supplies within dental clinic.

* Takes diagnostic x-rays for doctor diagnosis.

* Records intraoral photos for dental treatment and diagnosis.

* Responsible for pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.

* Educates patients by giving oral hygiene and postoperative instructions.

* Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.

* Documents each visit with patient and completes full charting.

* Attends continuing education to maintain dental assistant certification.

* Uses knowledge of expanded functions.

* Communicate any supplies that need replenishing or replacement.

* Restock and maintain an inventory of dental supplies and instruments to assure a constant level is always available.

* Perform all opening, closing and maintenance procedures as described in sterilization and maintenance policies, as well as other duties as delegated

* Updates patient's health history and medication list.

* Possesses basic knowledge of specific processes and procedures needed to perform assignments within own work area

* Properly sterilize all dental instruments and equipment in accordance with departmental policy.

* Maintain in/out logs for supplies and implants in a manner that assures completeness and accuracy.

* Perform weekly and monthly maintenance of Autoclave and Statim.

* Perform weekly spore testing and maintain a log of the results

* Assist clinical staff in optimizing patient flow. This will include restocking items, seating patients, 'floating', and supporting other dental team members with patient care.

Maintain order and cleanliness in the dental lab and in the sterilization area

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Certifications as required by state/federal law or regulatory agencies is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Dentrix.

Expanded functions Dental Assistant.

Previous private practice experience in a general dental practice.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$18.00 to $21.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
