Job Summary
The Web Strategist will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining engaging content and page layouts for Chicago State University's ( CSU) external website and intranet. This position is responsible for driving optimization efforts to enhance user experience (UX), increase engagement, and improve search engine optimization ( SEO) across all web pages.
Job Description


  • Content Development: Work closely with subject matter experts, departments, and/or leadership to create, edit, and manage web content that aligns with CSU's objectives. Ensure all content is clear, engaging, and accessible.

  • Page Layout Design: Collaborate with the IT Department to design and implement intuitive page layouts that enhance user navigation and engagement.

  • SEO Optimization: Conduct keyword research and implement best practices for on-page SEO to improve the visibility and ranking of CSU's website on search engines.

  • User Experience (UX) Enhancement: Analyze user behavior and feedback to identify areas for improvement. Develop strategies to enhance user experience through design adjustments and content updates.

  • Analytics and Reporting: Monitor website performance using analytics tools. Provide regular reports on engagement metrics, SEO rankings, and overall website performance to inform future strategies.

  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with various departments, including marketing, admissions, and academic units, to ensure that the website effectively meets the needs of students, faculty, and stakeholders.

  • Stay Current with Trends: Keep abreast of the latest trends in web design, content management, and digital marketing to ensure CSU's website remains competitive and innovative.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
  2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.
  3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.


Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years' experience, preferably for a university, a web-focused media company, a marketing agency, or a company marketing department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with web writing, production management, web page design, HTML, and web graphics types and standards required. Experience with content management software.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills required. Intense attention to detail, accuracy and quality control.
  • Requires detailed orientation and solid organizational skills.
  • Must have a familiarity with user interface and navigational design.
  • Experience with search marketing, organic search and web analytics best practices required.
  • Ability to work independently and interact effectively with technical and management staff at the hospitals and university.
