WHAT TO EXPECT

As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward-thinking, open-minded, and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. Located in our Rochester Hills office, as a Software Development Engineer, you'll join Gates team developing a cutting-edge e-bike motor.

  • Your focus will be on the development of the IoT portion of the motor controller, to interface with the company's ecosystem and Cloud backend.
  • You will act as a consultant to the organization by continuously researching and studying the latest trends and issues.
  • You'll drive enterprise organizational alignment to ensure successful technology adoption, security, governance, monitoring, and risk management is adhered to.
  • This position reports to Gates Technical Director for New Technology Innovation and is responsible for developing, testing and supporting software for e-bike centric devices.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design IoT functionality as part of the embedded e-bike controller. The IoT module will be communicating with the e-bike controller as well as the cloud back-office and the mobile App.
  • Implement and oversee all aspects of an IoT module development in collaboration with software engineers in charge of the Cloud backend and the user App
  • Lead the software development of the code for the e-bike IoT functionality
  • Nurture IoT computing expertise internally and externally to develop a new cloud-based ecosystem.
  • Implement required systems, solutions, and processes needed to manage the desired e-bike
  • functionality
  • Ensure the code development adheres to security and compliance best practices

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience supporting and developing IoT solutions
  • Limited travel possible to supplier facilities and plant and global facilities
  • Excited to work in the office with great teammates
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experienced in programming with Rust & C++
  • Experience with Micro Controllers and IoT devices (4G/WiFi/BLE/GPS)
  • Competence in version control software like GitHub or Bitbucket
  • Fluency in automated testing procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understands and can articulate the technical merits and value of IoT based technology.
  • Work collaboratively with the Electronic Hardware engineer developing the IoT PCB
  • Passionate, persuasive, articulate software professional capable of quickly establishing interest and credibility in how to design, deploy and operate IoT applications.
  • Strong written, verbal, and chalk board skills
  • Experience working with embedded systems
  • Experience working with Wi-fi and Cellular networks required
  • Ability to work with team members from around the globe/experience working with offshore models
  • Strong service attitude and a commitment to quality

  • Full-Time

  • Eligible for 3 weeks of paid vacation + 11 holidays (9 scheduled & 2 floating) + 8 sick days. All vacation days are accrued
