The WEX Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is seeking an entry-level Site Reliability Engineer Level 1 who is passionate about learning and growing in the field of software development and solutions focused on observability, incident response, reliability and performance, operational excellence, and compliance.

The team will be part of the Benefits Reliability organization which supports our internal stakeholders and our Benefits Platform teams. As part of the Benefits Reliability organization you'll have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers, contribute to solving complex challenges and improve the quality of life of our engineering teams and our ability to service our customers.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and quick-learning individual with a strong foundation in computer science principles and a desire to build a career in SRE. They will have a basic understanding of software development, cloud computing, and operational best practices. The Site Reliability Engineer Level 1 will work closely with senior SREs and engineering teams to ensure that our systems are reliable, performant, and secure.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Learning and Development: Actively participate in training and mentorship programs to gain a deep understanding of SRE principles and practices. Show a commitment to continuous learning and development in the field.

  • Assisting in System Design: Support senior SREs in architecting and implementing highly available, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems. Learn about system performance optimization and risk mitigation.

  • Participate in Incident Response: Observe and assist senior SREs during incident response efforts, gaining practical experience in troubleshooting and resolving issues. Learn about incident management processes and best practices.

  • Basic Automation and Tooling: Gain familiarity with automation tools used to streamline operational tasks and improve system reliability. Learn to utilize monitoring and observability tools to understand system behavior.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to gain an understanding of how software design impacts operational requirements. Develop strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Observing Capacity Planning & Performance Optimization: Shadow senior SREs in forecasting capacity needs and implementing strategies for system scalability. Learn about performance bottleneck identification and optimization techniques.

  • Security & Compliance: Develop an understanding of security best practices and how they apply to system design and operation. Learn about industry standards and regulations related to compliance.

  • Exploring Innovation: Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends alongside senior team members. Gain exposure to new tools and techniques used to improve SRE practices and system reliability.

Experience you'll bring:

  • 0-2 years of experience in a technical role (internships and relevant coursework considered)

  • Basic understanding of at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go)

  • Foundational knowledge of Cloud Computing platforms (AWS and/or Azure)

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Eagerness to learn and contribute in a team environment

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent job experience

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
