In this role, you will investigate, negotiate, and settle claims in a professional, equitable, and consistent manner. You will also assist in administering Workers' Compensation claims, ensuring accurate reporting of on-the-job injury claims to third-party adjusters, and coordinating medical care for injured employees. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, have experience in conflict resolution, and demonstrate a teachable and self-motivated mindset.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A high school diploma or GED; a Bachelor's degree in business administration, risk management, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with insurance, property, liability, or Workers' Compensation claims, contracts, or risk management; preferably within a governmental or public entity.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Adjuster or Agent license preferred.
  • Bilingual with professional proficiency in written and verbal Spanish communication.
  • Familiarity with Workers' Compensation Chapter 440 and Florida Statute 768.28

Salary Range: $30.93/hr - $38.67/hr (Est. $64,338 - $80,433 annually) - commensurate with experience

Job Purpose:

Review and analyze property and liability claims for OUC by investigating, negotiating, and settling claims in a professional, equitable and consistent manner. Assist and support the administration of Worker's Compensation claims.

Primary Functions:

  • Investigate, negotiate, and settle routine first party and third-party property damage claims; perform field investigations and maintain applicable correspondence with OUC employees, insurance companies, claimants, and law enforcement agencies as necessary;
  • Respond to employee vehicle accidents; perform field investigation, claim negotiation, settlement, denial, etc.;
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of on-the-job injury claims to third party adjusters;
  • Review workers compensation claims for compensability as necessary;
  • Review, approve and coordinate medical care for injured employees, communicate with health care providers;
  • Review, approve and process workers compensation claim payments to be made to and by our third party administer;
  • Review workers compensation claim medical care provider notes and diagnostic reports for appropriate claim administration;
  • Communicate claim-related matters (medical care or lack of, time charges, time off, etc.) with employees, management, payroll, and third party administrators; provide instruction of next steps when necessary;
  • Complete wage reporting to third party adjuster for State of Florida for injured workers as required by statute;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of all, but not limited to, the following:
  • Various insurance policies;
  • Coverage forms, carriers, endorsements, brokers, etc.;
  • Electric generation, transmission and distribution process;
  • Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws;
  • Medical practices, procedures, and terminology;
  • Claims software/ commercial insurance software;
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, compute rates, ratios and percentages;
  • Ability to analyze invoices, assessments, penalties, third-party administrator fees, and fee schedule;
  • Ability to use safety equipment and camera;
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and use standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.).

Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, risk management, finance or related field (preferred);
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with insurance, property, liability or workers compensation claims, contracts, or risk management;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • Adjuster or Agents license, preferred;

Working Conditions:

This job may involve occasional exposure to some disagreeable elements (dust, heat, cold, noise, etc.) and accidents are improbable other than minor injuries. This job may require rare outdoor weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

This job requires constant speaking & hearing, typing, reading, and writing. This job requires very frequent walking and sitting, and frequent standing. This job may require occasional bending/ stooping and, on rare occasion, lifting up to twenty (20) lbs. and driving a company vehicle.
