Job Description Summary

The Financial Aid Associate Director of Compliance and Training, working under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, oversees compliance, ensuring integrity and adherence with federal and state regulations, university policy, and departmental procedures through robust comprehension of compliance and delivery of staff training. The ideal candidate will embody excellent communication and training abilities and effective project management skills. Core competencies include the delivery of high-quality presentation materials, maintaining a strategic compliance vision, problem-solving, FA staff professional development, and regulatory knowledge.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Compliance and Training

  • Develop and monitor the systems necessary to ensure the integrity of Wake Forest financial aid operations and campus-wide Title IV compliance.
  • In collaboration with campus partners, develop and supervise maintenance of, policies and procedures required to maintain integrity and compliance of financial aid functions
  • In collaboration with other members of financial aid and campus leadership, including Wake Forest's Office of Compliance, develop and implement corrective action in response to audit findings and craft responses to audit findings and recommendations
  • Assist campus leadership in the development of department wide training to ensure staff compliance with required competencies in information security, data integrity, FERPA, consumer information disclosures and other areas of administrative capability.
  • Participate in campus committees and task forces as needed to address compliance related requirements or concerns.
  • Provide project management for implementation of new regulatory requirements that require collaboration and cooperation with campus partners.
  • Review, organize, and update existing documentation and training materials, including department policies and procedures.
  • Create and coordinate new documentation and training sessions where needed.
  • Deliver training to staff members to enhance their understanding of financial aid processes and their roles.
  • Serve as department Primary DPA and manage Federal Student Aid online and electronic services access per guidelines established by The Department of Education. Serves as system access administrator for all other outside agencies.
  • Administers the University's compliance with Veterans Administration, Department of Defense, and state policies as they relate to military educational benefits; keeps campus departments and FA staff informed of any pertinent changes to related military education policies. Provides training to University departments and FA staff regarding any update in information that relates to the University's VA/military benefit certification processes.
  • Assures compliance with applicable academic regulations, rules, laws, policies, and procedures related to Veterans Services functions. Supervises the Veterans Affairs Specialist.
  • Serves as a School Certifying Official for certification of student Veteran education entitlements of the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).
  • Oversees program compliance audits from the VA Regional Office

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with at least three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial aid compliance
  • Ability to communicate complex and specialized technical information in understandable terms to management and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Ability to analyze data.
  • Comfort with public speaking and presentation of complex materials.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Title IV Compliance and other regulatory sources including NCAA and VA
  • Experience in higher education technology/student information systems.
  • Experience working in a Student Financial Aid office.
  • Experience writing policy and sharing complex information to campus constituents

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for own work.
  • Supervises the Veterans Affairs Specialist.

Physical Requirements:
