Position Summary:
The Helen and John C. Hartmann
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the New Jersey
Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a tenure-track position
at the Assistant Professor level in the areas of Intelligent Systems and Data
Engineering, Computer Systems and Networking, Quantum Communication, Quantum Information Science, Robotics,. However,
suitable candidates in other areas such as cyber-physical systems; network
intelligence/adaptability and artificial intelligence on edge; Neuromorphic
Computing; low-power and high-performance deep learning hardware; security and
hardware for artificial intelligence will also be considered.
ECE with 28 tenured/tenure-track
faculty is a one of the most research active departments at NJIT with annual
research expenditure exceeding $5M. Research thrust areas include contemporary
electrical and computer engineering, including photonics, nano and quantum
materials and devices; communication, signal processing and machine
intelligence; energy, power system and sustainability; computer systems and
networking; robotics, intelligent systems, data engineering in addition to
information theory, computer architecture, embedded systems, artificial
intelligence, renewable energy, and bio-systems and are funded by NSF, USDOD,
USDOE, USNIH, industry and private foundations, among others. The department
offers bachelor, masters and doctoral programs serving about 800 students. ECE
offers BS, MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering and in Computer Engineering.
Essential Functions:
- Candidates are expected to
conduct and advance scholarly research in energy and control systems and
computer systems and secure external research funding from federal and state
agencies and industry.
- Candidates are also expected to teach undergraduate and
graduate level courses in electrical and computer engineering as well as
provide service to the program, department, university, and profession.
Additional Functions:
The envisioned research directions imply necessary
experience and an ability to collaborate with inter- and multi- disciplinary
researchers.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Applicants are expected to have a
doctorate in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or
closely related field.
- Applicants should have evidence of high-quality
scholarly achievement that demonstrates independent research, potential for
securing of external research funding and a demonstrated commitment to
excellence in undergraduate and graduate education.
- Industry experience and the
ability to obtain professional licensure is desirable.
- Candidates must have the
potential to establish an externally funded research program in her/his area of
expertise.
- At the university's discretion,
the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate
can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent
combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate
for success in the position.
