General Purpose of Job: Performs ultrasound examinations on emergency room patients, inpatients, and outpatients in accordance with physicians' orders. Essential Duties:
- Prepares patients for ultrasound examinations by obtaining patient history relevant to the condition being viewed, explaining procedure to be performed, and properly positioning patients for the procedure.
- Performs ultrasound examinations on patients in accordance with physicians' orders.
- Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the radiologist in a timely manner.
- Assists radiologist with performing specialized procedures as directed.
- Prepares and maintains patient records and files.
- Maintains diagnostic imaging equipment and ultrasound examination rooms; performs quality control tests to assure all equipment is functioning properly and initiates corrective action as necessary.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies; orders supplies as needed.
- Transports patient's to/from various departments within the Hospital as needed.
- Performs a variety of clerical tasks including answering phones, scheduling/canceling patient exams, assisting patients at the main window, pulling patient films, filing patient records, and inputting patient information into the Epic computer system.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
- Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
Job Requirements
General Requirements |
* American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification is required, within one year of board eligibility |
Work Experience |
* Minimum of one year of related ultrasonography experience |
Education |
* Completion of an accredited or Diagnostic Medical Sonography program |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Knowledge and understanding of ultrasonography techniques and procedures * Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the radiology function including HIPAA confidentiality and JCAHO mandates * Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation * Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other Hospital staff in the exchange of information. The incumbent is also required to communicate technical information in non-technical terms * Analytical ability to assess patients' condition and determine necessary images for satisfactory diagnosis * Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the emotional needs/concerns of patients, complete multiple ultrasound exams in a timely manner, and work on tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job |
