Position Summary

A Radiation Therapist is a highly specialized clinician that has a thorough understanding and knowledge of human anatomy, radiation physics and the physiology and psychology of cancer. Under the supervision of the Radiation Oncology leadership team, their responsibility is to carry out the prescriptive treatment plan from the radiation oncologist and physicist. A radiation therapist will simulate, set up patients, localize the treatment site(s) and deliver ionizing radiation treatment within department or hospital standard work and policies and procedures. They will collaborate with the radiation oncology health care team that includes physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, and nurses to deliver accurate treatments and provide optimal patient care.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Performs CT scan and clinical based simulations required for the preparation of the delivery of radiation therapy treatments to meet goals of care by utilizing unit-based protocols and standard work and within hospital or departmental policies and procedures. Construct and utilize treatment aides and immobilization devices per physician orders and prescription. Proficiently and safely operates the CT simulator to produce quality images for radiation treatment procedures while adhering to radiation safety rules.
  • Performs radiation treatment modalities required for the delivery of radiation therapy to meet goals for care by utilizing unit-based protocols and standard work and within hospital or departmental policies and procedures. Set up patients effectively and deliver radiation treatments with precision per physician orders and prescription. Proficiently and safely operates all treatment machines and their imaging modalities (Linear Accerators, Brain Lab, Align RT, Brachytherapy and Hyperthermia) while adhering to radiation safety rules
  • Performs required documentation for treatments and procedures in compliance with departmental and hospital stand work and policies and procedures for Systems at Memorial (EPIC) record and verify (ARIA), chart checks, and quality assurance management and improvement
  • Effectively communicates with other health team members and areas of care with regard to the patients' plan of care for treatment, measured outcomes, and make recommendations for alternative care options. Coordinates care with other members of the health care team to achieve desired goals and outcomes.
  • Participates in efforts to improve the performance of the radiation oncology service and organization. Provides manager and other clinical leaders with information on issues that pertain to patient safety, opportunities to improve outcomes in care, and improvements in systems and processes.
  • Serves as a preceptor and role model for new personnel and students in training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:



  • 1 + years of experience as a Radiation Therapist preferred.


Education/Licensure/Certification:



  • Graduate of accredited school of Radiation Therapy.
  • Active license from the State of California as a Radiation Therapist (Certified by American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
  • Current certification for Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
