PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Director of Development (DOD) will oversee fundraising for key service lines and in partnership with the Senior Director of Development (SDOD), lead strategic elements of the campaign for capital projects (current and planned) and programmatic initiatives. The DOD provides strategic vision and leadership necessary to build upon the strengths of a grateful patient fundraising program and to increase the visibility and impact of the program across campus. The DOD is responsible for and provides guidance for all aspects of fundraising activities, including identification, qualification, cultivation; solicitation; gift closure; and stewardship of assigned prospects. As a key member of the Jeffersonrsquo;s fundraising team, the DOD will work with physician partners, Department Chairs and Division Chiefs to develop and implement key fundraising strategies for assigned service lines; translate Jefferson and service line priorities into appropriate major gift, blended gift, fundraising opportunities; establish and implement a long term development plan to support the programrsquo;s continued growth; collaborate and work closely with physician leadership in identifying and responding to gift opportunities; and maintain the flow of information about these priorities throughout the organization. The DOD will maintain an active portfolio of key major gift prospects. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- In conjunction with the SDOD, the Director will be responsible for the creation of a major gifts plan to support assigned service lines within assigned clinical area.
- In consultation with the SDOD, physicians, Department Chairs, and Division Chiefs, establish development program goals and the feasibility, timeline, staffing needs, and volunteer structure to support implementation.
- Personally maintain a portfolio of major gifts prospects. Maintain and manage this portfolio in a manner that fosters a relationship leading to philanthropic commitment.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the educational, research, clinical and financial needs and goals of service lines; establish, maintain, and grow a highly responsive and collaborative development program to meet these needs/goals.
- Maintain organized and consistent communication with physician and departmental leaders who serve as critical players in assigned service lines. Respond to the needs of these key players and collaboratively identify potential gift opportunities.
- Work with communications staff to translate strategic initiatives and programmatic/capital needs into persuasive proposals and compelling major gift opportunities.
- Work with Jeffersonrsquo;s events staff and other development officers to conceptualize events and other activities to cultivate and steward major gifts prospects and donors.
- Work collaboratively with the SDOD for the Abington Health Foundation and the Jefferson enterprise, to develop a dynamic, targeted, integrated annual fund work plan. Ensuring the optimizations of the use of social media and electronic communications.
- Work collaboratively with the Planned Giving team to create a robust planned giving program for grateful patients.
- Maintain fluid and proactive communications with colleagues to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving key fundraising goals and objectives.
- Manage an individual prospect pool of 125+
- Conduct a minimum of 125 Meaningful Donor Encounters per year
- Solicit at least 30 proposals annually at $25K+
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jeffersonrsquo;s core values
- Bachelorrsquo;s degree or equivalent level of professional experience required.
- Experience with database software systems and Microsoft Office. Excellent oral, written, and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with both internal and external constituencies.
- Ability to articulate, both written and orally a compelling case for major philanthropic support for medicine programs, presenting objectives persuasively to potential donors.
- 5 to 8 plus years of direct or related financial gift and fundraising experience, preferably at an academic medical center, hospital system, top research university, or a comparably complex organization.
- A demonstrated record of successful major gifts fundraising including qualification, cultivation, solicitation and closing of individual major gifts. Comprehensive campaign experience is highly desirable.
- Broad background including experience in several functional areas. Particular strength in the area of individual gifts is essential. Additional experience in planned, annual, corporate and foundation giving and events is desirable.
- Experience in leading a multi-constituent program including the development and execution of an operating plan in collaboration with a department head. Proven experience in strategy development, goal setting and achievement is essential.
