Job Summary:

The Department of Communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver invites applicants to apply for a full-time Instructor position. The hired candidate will teach eight courses: four in the fall and four in the spring semester and will contribute service as our Media Learning Lab Coordinator (reflected contractually with 80% teaching and 20% service). Courses to be assigned may include sections of 1001 Presentations and Civic Life, COMM 2050 Business Presentations, COMM 1011 Communication and Communities, COMM 1021 Introduction to Media Studies, and courses in our strategic communication pathway, such as COMM 2051 Introduction to Strategic Communication and COMM 4557 Crisis and Emergency Communication. There is also an opportunity to teach graduate studies courses, such as COMM 5051 Advanced Strategic Communication and/or COMM 5557 Crisis and Emergency Communication.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• MA in Communication, Strategic Communications, Media Literacy, or other related field.
  
• Three years' experience teaching public speaking, communications, media studies, or other related courses in higher education institutions.
• Experience as a professional/practitioner in strategic communications, public relations, media relations, or other related field in government, commercial,or nonprofit industry sector.
• Experience organizing student workers in a media lab environment and overseeing inventory and scheduling.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Communication
• Experience with photojournalism, multimedia production, and editing
• Demonstrated success supporting diversity and inclusive excellence through teaching, mentoring, and/or service initiatives in a work or educational environment.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
• Ability to deliver course content in multiple formats
• Capacity for promoting student success
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering diverse, equitable and inclusive environments for learning and discovery, including the ability to engage students and collaborators from racial and ethnic minority populations and other historically marginalized communities
• Evidence of high-quality teaching, including the development/use of grading rubrics, and high student satisfaction

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at $61,677 to $66,500.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
