About the Role:
We are looking for a highly qualified Board-Certified Medical Physicist to join our team at the VA Radiation Oncology Service. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, optimization, and evaluation of radiation treatment plans, as well as ensure precise and accurate radiation dose delivery for our patients. This position requires a strong commitment to patient safety, quality assurance, and collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist and technical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Consultation & Supervision: Be available for consultation with Radiation Oncologists and provide direction to technical staff during radiation treatments. Supervise complex simulations, treatment setups, and be present during Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) procedures.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor and review radiation dose calculations and ensure independent review of calculations. Develop and maintain methods for weekly and final chart reviews to confirm prescribed doses are accurately delivered.
- Dosimetry & Equipment: Oversee data input for treatment planning systems and perform regular tests to ensure output meets standards. Manage software updates and provide training for users of the treatment planning system.
- Equipment Management: Assist in the specification and selection of radiation equipment, evaluate the condition of existing equipment, and recommend maintenance or replacement as needed. Maintain calibration and testing documentation.
- Quality Management: Develop and maintain a Quality Management Program (QMP) to ensure safe and consistent delivery of radiation therapy. Provide annual reports of quality management activities.
- Network & Computer Support: Manage networking and computer systems used for treatment planning and patient data. Ensure smooth communication between imaging, planning, and treatment systems.
- Training & Development: Provide an environment conducive to training radiation oncology residents and support their professional development.
- Implementation of New Procedures: Collaborate with the VA Chief, Radiation Oncology Service to establish standards for new procedures, including training and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Certification: Must be Board Certified in Medical Physics (Therapeutic) by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
- Education: Master's or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience within the last 3 years in a relevant role.
- Strong understanding of treatment planning software, radiation therapy equipment, and quality assurance practices.
