What's the Role?

As a Sr Systems Engineer you will be leading enterprise-wide technology initiatives that align to our technology strategy. This will include initiatives related to Windows, Mac, IOS and Android platforms. Day to day you will be participating in team meetings to discuss project statuses, upcoming deployments and mentoring other engineers. In addition, you will be designing, planning and implementing technology improvements along with other IT teams in the organization.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Cumulative of prior level plus following:
  • Subject Matter Expert of one or more technology Domains.
  • Partnering with vendors and enterprise teams on emerging best practices, patterns and technology.
  • Planning and executing projects related to our end user computing platforms (Windows, Mac and Mobile).
  • Proactively learn emerging platforms and related technology.
  • Ability to solve complex technical issues and enable/teach peers to be self sufficient.
  • Establish and maintain best practices as it relates to compliance, security, privacy and legal requirements.
  • Anticipate deviations from standard practices and find practical ways to move forward.
  • Closely follow industry trends relevant to your domain and understand how to apply them to your work as appropriate.
  • Break down complex problems into smaller, more manageable ones, and help others to do the same.
  • Understand what tools are available and useful for your domain, how they work, and the sorts of situations and problems for which they're useful.
  • Use them effectively and teach them to your teammates.
  • Develop, maintain and execute on disaster recovery / redundancy strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 4-5 years professional experience.
  • May include:
  • 5 years of professional IT experience.
  • 5 years experience with at least one OS/hosting platform. (Microsoft 365, Intune, etc)
  • 5 years experience in performance tuning of application stacks.
  • 3 years experience with Cloud based PaaS and SaaS.
  • 5 years experience with platforms and integration points to On Prem infrastructure.
  • 5 years experience with virtualization and containerization.
  • 5 years experience with monitoring and performance management of systems.
  • 5 years experience with Scripting development (i.e. Powershell\Python).
  • 5 years experience with networking knowledge.
  • 3-5 years experience with Identity Platform and tools.
  • 2 years experience with modern development and scripting languages.
  • Experience with CICD concepts, and tools, branching strategies and leveraging knowledge to assist in delivering an infrastructure as a product.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills within area of expertise, and solid troubleshooting in adjacent domains.
  • Solid understanding of traditional or cloud computing technologies including Networking, Compute, Storage, Development, Data, Operations, or Security.
  • 4 years experience in one of the following (AWS, Kubernetes, Linux, Windows) administration and configuration.
  • Experience with multiple delivery methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall.

Pay Range - Start:

$90,930.00

Pay Range - End:

$168,870.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
