Please read this description completely and thoroughly. The AJC will offer internships in multiple disciplines including Reporting, Video/Photo/Graphics, and Programming. Each has more detail below. For All Internships You must be a rising college junior, senior or graduate student. We also accept applications from those who have graduated within six months of the start of the summer internship. The AJC accepts applications from all schools and regions of the country but gives priority to applicants from Georgia or who attend school in Georgia. Roughly 80% of our interns have a local connection to the state. Strong preference for applicants who have worked on campus media content and/or had previous professional news internship. Internships will be based out of the AJC headquarters in midtown Atlanta. Interns will be expected to be present in Atlanta and have regular attendance in the office. Internships run for 12 weeks from mid-June to the end of August. Reporting Reporters Reporter interns join one of the newsroom's reporting teams, which include breaking news, crime, business, local education, local government, state politics, sports, and black culture. Prior experience in daily deadline writing and reporting is required. Awareness of video, photography, and other digital skills is also preferred. Must have worked on the campus newspaper or website and/or had previous professional news internship. Data Reporter We're looking for someone with a strong news sense ideally a person who has already worked at one regular reporting internship who has a deep interest in working with data as the starting point of a story. Prior experience in writing and reporting on deadline is required. Programming skills preferred but not required. What's required, above all else, is a desire to work with data along with the ability to fumble through Excel and learn SQL. Knowledge of statistical packages, such as R, and mapping is a plus. VISUALS TEAM: INTERNSHIPS The AJC's video, motion design and photo interns will learn to deliver work across diverse, creative platforms. Candidates should have a passion for immersive storytelling and creating content that educates and inspires through compelling narratives and engaging visuals. Interns may be involved in video production, interactive/motion graphics, or photojournalism. Video Production Intern Interns will partner on executing stories from conception through completion and will develop skills in pitching, reporting, writing, shooting and editing. Candidates should have an understanding of how to conceptualize and execute feature and serialized content in the documentary and news space. As a video intern, you must care about quality, possess a strong aesthetic eye, and be digital-first in your approach.
Interactive OR Motion Graphics Intern We're looking for someone who has solid web development and design skills, as well as a knack for making clean, clear, creative interactive graphics.

Send us your online portfolio or links to your work. Photojournalist Intern Candidates must have photojournalism experience, an aesthetic eye, strong journalistic integrity, and a passion for photojournalism and visual storytelling. Familiarity and experience shooting with Canon preferred.
Programming (Digital) Producer Intern The AJC's programming interns will learn to cultivate and grow audiences through social media, content curation/creation, interactive development and more. Throughout the course of the internship, interns will have the opportunity to experiment in a variety of areas depending on their skills and interests. We are looking for two types of interns: Those skilled at writing/producing content and those familiar with interactive web development. The AJC Programming team encompasses multiple areas including social media, platforms (ajc.com and app), optimization/SEO, and newsletters.
Intern/Co-Op sessions are considered temporary employment. No full-time employment commitments are made. However, depending on our business needs, some interns may be considered for a full-time position following the conclusion of the session conditioned upon the intern graduating from their academic program and being available to commence full-time employment at a specified time. Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship. USD 21.06 - 31.63 per hour Compensation: Hourly base pay rate is $21.06 - $31.63/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.
