Job Summary
Position Description
The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a colleague with a record of significant accomplishment in the study and practice of emerging media art who will lead course offerings specializing in ethical considerations in new media creative practice.
The ideal candidate will have a history of both artistic and scholarly research, as well as a willingness to work across disciplines, intersecting an interest in ethics with creative practice using emerging media forms. Applicants should demonstrate creative research experience with national or international impact, a commitment to excellence in the classroom, a record of leadership, and enthusiasm for shaping the future of an ambitious, growing program that combines theory and practice at a major research university.
Essential duties include teaching four courses annually at the undergraduate and graduate levels, contributing to university service, and conducting hybrid creative and scholarly research.
The appointment commences for the fall 2025 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: An MFA or PhD in Studio Art, Visual Arts, or Design.Candidates with a PhD should have extensive experience in studio work or relevant professional practice; those with ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Education and Experience: MFA or PhD with mastery of a programming language related to creative practice and a strong record of both artistic and scholarly research that integrates ethics with creative practice. Candidates should also have national or international impact in their work and leadership experience.
Design and Creative Practice
The Design and Creative Practice program inspires students to blend art, technology, design, engineering, science, and the humanities to create innovative solutions. They develop their skills in UX/UI design, video production, sound design, and digital fabrication.
The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology (The Bass School) is a community of scholars, artists, and creative practitioners defined by their creativity, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding. Within the context of a Carnegie R1 doctoral research institution, The Bass School fosters the fluid movement between traditional disciplines and cutting-edge experimental investigation of emerging technologies.
