Moog is looking for an Engineering Manager to be responsible for project engineering execution associated with product development including capacity planning, change implementation, budget control, technical support, and optimizing efficiencies across teams. You will provide direct technical leadership and/or facilitate project engineering teams while supporting new business and R&D activities. You will also identify and champion process improvement initiatives to address deficiencies in project execution. Your team will include approximately 15-17 Project Engineers. Reporting to a Site Engineering Manager, you will have a 9/80 work schedule with a hybrid work option (3 days/week in the office) in Torrance, CA.

As an Engineering Manager of Project Engineering, you will:

  • Provide development, planning, and execution oversight on engineering projects and R&D efforts.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels, balancing workload with budget constraints, including resolving short term staffing problems by loaning /borrowing personnel to/from other departments by working closely with peers.
  • Responsible for personnel selection/training/development/performance management.
  • Ensure projects are executed to meet required scope, and cost and schedule targets.
  • Ensure adherence to company operating procedures
  • Manage product delivery and cost performance from a tactical perspective. Monitor progress and intervene as appropriate to maintain performance.
  • Manage the product development capacity and planning process through active recruiting and retention of skilled employees. This entails working with the project team to ensure that the assigned engineering resources are appropriate for the tasks and that the program planning and expectations of tasks are reasonable.
  • Responsible for analysis necessary to ensure specification performance compliance, product integrity, and cost effectiveness.
  • Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key engineers and officials of outside organizations.
  • Because of the range of accountabilities associated with the direct reports, a broad knowledge of supply chain, manufacturing, operations, testing, contracts, and engineering disciplines of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, systems, software, and materials, is beneficial.

To be considered for the role, here's what you'll need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace is desirable)
  • Minimum 10+ years of professional engineering work experience in the design/development of hydro/electromechanical components or systems
  • 5+ years of experience managing people in a supervisory managerial role OR leading Teams/projects
  • 10+ years of project management experience
  • Demonstrated history of leading process improvement or continuous improvement initiatives related to project execution efficiencies

This position requires access to US export-controlled information

It'd be great if you also had:

  • 15+ years of engineering work experience in the design/development of hydro/electromechanical components or systems
  • Experience in the aerospace industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project
  • Experience with DOORS software
  • Knowledge and application experience using Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • DoD security clearance or the ability to obtain one
  • Ability to coach and mentor a team on communication and leadership

Salary Range Transparency:

Torrance, CA $150,000.00-$190,000.00 Annually

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
