Cultural Resources Specialist - Mid Level (Hybrid)

Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work with Barr scientists and engineers, clients, and regulatory agencies to address cultural resources and regulatory issues related to Barr projects. Work may include:

  • Performing due diligence reviews for cultural resources

  • Coordinating and conducting field studies

  • Developing reports required for project approvals

  • Developing documentation for the State Historic Preservation Office and Tribal Historic Preservation Program for Section 106 concurrence

  • Drafting sections of NEPA documents

  • Assisting with permit applications and other technical writing

  • Helping clients interpret regulations and work within regulatory constraints

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in industrial archaeology, archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, a related field, or equivalent education and experience

  • 5 years of experience in cultural resources management

  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards in archaeology or history

  • Ability to obtain required permits to perform archaeological surveys on federal, state, and public land in the Upper Midwest or Northern Plains

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Section 106 and state regulations concerning cultural resources management

  • Experience with cultural resources literature reviews, fieldwork, National Register evaluations, data recovery investigations, construction monitoring, scheduling, and report preparation

  • Cultural resources and regulatory experience with a variety of project types and sizes and in a range of applicable state and federal regulatory settings throughout the Midwest or Northern Plains

  • Familiarity with GIS in a field setting

  • Ability to work cooperatively

  • Good writing, editing, and communication skills

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or interest writing cultural resource and tribal sections for environmental review documents

  • Willingness to travel and complete fieldwork for short-term, out of town assignments

  • Experience presenting at public meetings

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position may be based out of Barr's Duluth or Minneapolis, Minnesota, or Bismarck, North Dakota, offices.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain, steep slopes, and dense vegetation. Job assignments may also involve work on construction and industrial sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
