Job Summary

The Exercise Physiologist in the Non-Invasive Cardiology Stress Lab operates and maintains the medical devices and instruments to perform cardiopulmonary exercise stress tests (CPET), lung volume and flow loops, including spirometry, total lung capacity, functional residual capacity, airway resistance as well as non-invasive cardiac monitoring during dynamic and pharmacological stress testing. Specific patient populations include advanced heart failure and adult congenital heart disease patients. Provides cross coverage at other UCSF diagnostic sites as needed.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $51.94 - $65.09 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
  • Bachelors' or Masters' Degree in Kinesiology or equivalent (ie: Exercise Physiology, Respiratory Therapy)
  • Current registry through American College of Sports Medicine as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist
    • ACSM-CEP
  • In depth knowledge of the complex principles, procedures and techniques of respiratory therapy.
  • In depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to cardiac and pulmonary function.
  • In depth knowledge of a variety of complex respiratory and exercise equipment including the operating characteristics, capabilities and limitations of such equipment.
  • In depth knowledge of ECG tracings, normal and abnormal ECG findings, arrhythmia's and exercise induced ECG abnormalities.
  • 1-2 years' experience in healthcare as an Exercise Physiologist

Preferred Qualifications


  • University Hospital Experience
  • Masters' Degree in Kinesiology or equivalent (ie: Exercise Physiology, Respiratory Therapy)
  • Experience with cardiopulmonary testing (CPET) or Pulmonary Function Testing
  • Congenital/Heart Failure Experience
  • Current use of GE MUSE/Philips ST80i Cardiac Stress System
  • Current use of MGC Diagnostics Ultima CPX system and BreezeSuite Software
  • Previous work within a cardiology department or cardiology practice

License/Certification


  • Current registry through American College of Sports Medicine as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist
    • ACSM-CEP
  • BLS - American Heart Association
