Job Summary

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Consultant delivers on our Purpose by focusing on the effective development and deployment of traditional AI and generative AI products in Operations portfolio with an early focus on supporting Tech Ops Transformation Initiative. The AI Consultant manages the full AI lifecycle, from creating strategic roadmaps to ensuring successful product delivery, working closely with cross functional teams - business stakeholders, technology teams, data scientists, and big data analysts to develop and deploy AI solutions that drive real business impact. This role will effectively communicate complex AI solutions to Technical, Non - Technical, and Leadership ensuring alignment with business goals and drive innovation. The AI Consultant is an organized collaborator and problem-solver who is ready to drive the future of Southwest Airlines.

Additional Details:

  • This Dallas-based role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require onsite presence / travel fortrainings, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in an approved remote location within the Dallas - Fort Worth area.

Responsibilities
  • Works on moderate to complex data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization projects, working with the customer and collaborating with colleagues to understand contextual problems quickly and define, analyze, and deliver products based on business objectives with assistance from peers
  • Serves as the customer relationship lead on data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization projects and interacts with functional leaders across multiple and concurrent projects
  • Leads discussions with stakeholders from multiple backgrounds with some assistance to gather business needs for a data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization solutions
  • Serves as internal subject matter leader on data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization delivery methodologies
  • Develops Executive-level communication (e.g. project status updates, presentations, etc.)
  • Synthesizes moderate amounts of detailed data and summarizes relevant information for the appropriate stakeholder
  • Formulates and communicates results and options for moderately complex problems to the customer
  • Analyzes the market landscape and formulates best practices to support their internal customer needs
  • Supports the ongoing development of the Southwest Airlines data science center and community
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Intermediate knowledge in both inductive and deductive reasoning and problem solving approaches
  • Intermediate knowledge in evaluating analytic methods to propose the appropriate end-to-end product roadmap for business problems
  • Intermediate knowledge in leveraging value definition frameworks and methodologies to size, scope, and prioritize various data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization initiatives
  • Skilled in leveraging enterprise communication tools to develop and deliver messaging of complex technical projects to appropriate stakeholders
  • Skilled in utilizing project management tools to define the product roadmap and project plan used to ensure the project has the resources needed to complete tasks on time
  • Ability to build trust with all levels of Employees up to and including functional leaders and must have the ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to lead moderate to complex data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization projects including acting as a leader in business stakeholder meetings, solution definition and planning, detailed task and deliverable definition and creation, and project schedule creation
  • Ability to communicate in an engaging way with strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences up to and including cross-functional leaders
  • Ability to adjust to a variety of situations and changing approaches/methodology if necessary in order to effectively and successfully meet objectives
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer or Data Sciences, Information Technology or similar fields of study; or equivalent advance level experience
Experience
  • Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
    • Data analysis and advanced analytics
    • Consulting and management experience with data science, machine learning, or artificial intelligence projects
    • Visualization and presentation development and delivery
    • Solving ambiguous and complex problems through a systems thinking approach
  • Preferred: Experience working with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, IT professionals, and data scientists

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $124,550 per year to $138,400 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
