Job Purpose

We are looking for a dynamic and results-oriented Business Development Manager to join our team. This role is focused on driving growth for RWS IP Solutions by identifying and selling patent research and litigation services to both new and existing customers. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in business development within the IP services sector, with a focus on expanding relationships with law firms, corporations, and patent professionals.

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

    Develop and implement a strategic business development plan to drive sales for RWS IP Solutions patent research and litigation services.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities with law firms, corporations, and other key stakeholders in the intellectual property space.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing clients, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction and identifying opportunities for upselling and cross-selling additional services.
  • Lead the full sales cycle, from prospecting to closing, including crafting proposals, negotiating contracts, and securing new deals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across RWS to ensure that the services offered through AOP Connect meet client expectations and industry demands.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and market shifts to identify opportunities for RWS to remain a market leader in patent research and litigation support.
  • Participate in industry events, webinars, and conferences to increase brand visibility and network with potential clients.
  • Deliver regular sales forecasts, pipeline reports, and progress updates to senior management.
  • Provide feedback from clients to the product development team to help enhance the AOP Connect platform and improve service offerings.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Law, or a related field. An advanced degree in IP law, engineering, or a technical discipline is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or account management within the intellectual property, legal services, or patent research industry.
  • Strong understanding of patent research, prosecution, litigation, and IP management processes.
  • Demonstrated success in selling complex services to corporate clients and law firms, with a proven ability to close large deals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a track record of managing client accounts and fostering long-term partnerships.
  • Proficiency in using CRM systems (such as Salesforce) and sales management tools.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to travel to client meetings and industry events as needed.

Base Pay

$75,000 - $95,000 / year

Actual rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to: position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. Total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other perks, as outlined in any formal offer made.
