JOB SUMMARY

The Attending Physician XI Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) is responsible for the assisting with the day-to-day operations of Department/Division's activities, under Direction of the Department Chair. The MFM Attending helps to ensure that the Division provides a level of services that are of the highest quality and are comparable to national and local standards of care and help provide active, ongoing participation in the Quality and Safety activities.

Typical Duties



  • * Provides direct patient care in the Cook County Health (CCH) clinics, hospitals, and perinatal center.
  • * Identifies, prioritizes, and implements patient-safety improvement opportunities. Monitors and sustains planned patient-safety improvements and maintains accreditation readiness. Exercises due care and diligence to facilitate the delivery of a high-quality care on a constant basis.
  • * Oversees activities related to resident and medical student's activity on the Maternal Fetal Medicine service, including development of schedules, and completion of evaluations, as directed.
  • * Performs only such procedures and/or treat only such conditions as were approved at the time of appointment/reappointment.
  • * Complies with departmental and institutional policies and accepts academic, clinical, and administrative assignments as per hospital bylaws.
  • * Participates in Quality Assurance/Process Improvement activities, didactics, and clinical case conference.
  • * Evaluates residents and students assigned to all Obstetrical and Gynecological rotations and participates in the organization and development of relevant teaching activities, as assigned.
  • * Participates in patient care duties which may include a complete range of clinical responsibilities related to the department.

o Participates in coverage of antepartum services, labor and delivery, obstetrical ultrasound, prenatal procedures, perinatal consultation



  • * Responsible for call as assigned.
  • * Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Minimum Qualifications




  • * Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) from an accredited college or university
  • * Licensed as a Physician in the State of Illinois or must obtain license prior to starting employment
  • * Valid Illinois Controlled Substance License or must obtain license prior to starting employment
  • * Valid licensure with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration or must obtain license prior to starting employment
  • * Successful completion of an ACGME accredited or equivalent residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • * Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology or Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology or must obtain Board Certification within two (2) years of starting this employment
  • * Successful completion of an ACGME approved maternal fetal medicine (MFM) fellowship or anticipated successful completion of MFM fellowship before starting this employment
  • * Board Certification in Maternal Fetal Medicine or must obtain Board Certification within two (2) years of starting this employment


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics



  • * Knowledge and clinical competency in core skills in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • * Knowledge and advanced clinical skills with requisite certification in Perinatal ultrasound.
  • * Knowledge and skills in prenatal diagnostic procedures
  • * Knowledge and proficiency in the latest computer technology as well as the skill set for electronic medical records
  • * Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
  • * Excellent program development, management, and leadership skills
  • * Strong customer service and empathy skills
  • * Demonstrate good phone and email etiquette skills with strong response times
  • * Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict management/resolution skills
  • * Ability to respond with promptness and dedication to the periodic emergency requests, whether within or directed to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • * Ability to maintain privileges in the department each physician will participate in a minimum of 50 hours category I CME specific to Obstetrics and Gynecology and maintain certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology and/or their respective subspecialty.
  • * Ability to adhere to a basic code of ethics that includes sensitivity to ethnic diversity, and with regards to the specific needs of underserved women
  • * Ability to adhere to the standards of The Joint Commission
  • * Ability to adhere to the standards of the Illinois Department of Public Health
  • * Ability to adhere to the standards of the Perinatal Network
  • * Ability to ascribe to basic tenets of professionalism as required by the department or the institution
