GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Working under the supervision of the Lab Manager and laboratory members, the Research Technician I will assist in research focusing on using zebrafish cancer models, xenograft models, and human cell lines to develop novel insights into how it is that pediatric tumors grow and eventually relapse following conventional chemotherapeutic intervention. More about David Langenau's research group can be found at langenaulab.com PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The individual will work closely with fellows with 70% effort expected to help drive research projects, maintaining human cell cultures, and basic molecular biology. General lab duties will comprise 30% of this position and will include reagent prep, ordering as needed, zebrafish line maintenance, feeding, and breeding animals, tank cleaning, and barcoding the system. Major duties will also include: *Executes protocols of non-routine experiments. *Assists PI and fellows with determining the most suitable methodology. *Performs basic design and modification of protocols. *Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data. *Prepares and presents reports. *Organizes and summarizes acquired data, using scientific and statistical techniques. *Organizes and/or drafts material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, or other documents for publication and/or presentation. *Participates in the design of experiments or field work. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED Experience using techniques such as minipreps, Western analysis, gateway cloning, microinjection, transgenesis, confocal imaging, and human cell culture sought. Animal handling and husbandry experience with zebrafish and/or mice highly desired but not required. Additional Competencies required: * Ability to work independently and as team member * Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems * Ability to interpret acceptability of data results * High Degree of computer literacy * Demonstrated competence in research techniques and methodologies. EDUCATION:
EXPERIENCE: Lab related laboratory experience that might include undergraduate research conducted in a lab during normal college semesters or summer (this excludes training in laboratory based classes or practicum).
