As space becomes increasingly congested and contested, maintaining awareness of all man-made objects around the Earth is critical for ensuring the safe and effective operation of U.S. satellites. Our researchers are collecting data from a global network of ground-based and space-based sensors to help both military and civil organizations track objects in space, monitor potential threats, and protect critical national assets. We leverage advanced data processing capabilities that rapidly ingest observations from the Space Surveillance Network and integrate that data to generate an accurate picture of the space environment around the Earth and to make predictions about evolving activity in space. We work closely with organizations such as the United States Space Force in order to maintain situational awareness in the space domain and to respond to rapidly changing events in space. Job Description Group 93, Information Integration and Decision Support, is seeking a Technical Staff member in the Colorado Springs area to conduct research and development in support of several National Security Space (NSS) organizations. The group's overarching goal is to ensure that the US has the most accurate and comprehensive picture of the space domain and a thorough understanding of the capabilities and limitations of US space warfighting capabilities. To achieve this the group conducts studies to identify capability needs, develops novel techniques for employing space surveillance sensors, prototypes tools to transform sensor data into actionable information, and works with a variety of operations and test teams to understand mission needs and to evaluate the survivability and effectiveness of US space systems. NSS organizations that we work with include USSSPACECOM, USSF/STARCOM, SWAC, SSDP, USSF/SPOC. This role will be full-time in-person at a variety of sites in the Colorado Springs area including government facilities and the MIT LL Colorado Field Site. Up to 20% travel to MA or other locations may be required. Major Responsibilities Perform analysis to answer space domain awareness and battle management questions in support of assessment of US or adversary capability Protype and demonstrate novel space domain awareness algorithms, tools, and techniques Direct support to government sponsors To Include conducting analysis, building briefings, and writing white papers Wide range of topics from force design, force employment, testing and training, spanning the breadth of the space control mission area from Space domain awareness to space control effects Organize reach-back support Work with government sponsor to define and propose interesting and impactful technical work that may be partially executed by staff in Lexington Guide reach-back efforts to ensure that work products are aligned with government needs and have maximal impact Communicate governments needs to leadership and staff in MA through regular updates and briefings Build productive relationships with government sponsors and their staffs and facilitate their interactions with group and laboratory leadership Contribute to and represent the positive culture of MIT Lincoln Laboratory Embody the values of integrity, technical excellence, and inclusiveness Required/Desired Qualifications PHD or MS degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related field Significant experience in the national security space area Excellent written, oral, and PowerPoint communication skills Demonstrated ability to define and lead complex projects to successful completion Experience interacting with government sponsors Active TS and SCI clearances highly desirable; ability to obtain and maintain TS and SCI clearances required At MIT Lincoln Laboratory, our exceptional career opportunities include many outstanding benefits to help you stay healthy, feel supported, and enjoy a fulfilling work-life balance.
