Brown and Caldwell is currently seeking a self-motivated, junior water and wastewater treatment engineer to join our design team. This person will initially work directly in our client's facilities (office and treatment plants) in Jackson, MS. In this role, you will observe wastewater operations and improvements performed by others and document them in daily reports. Under this assignment, which is expected to last 12 to 24 months, you will work with and be mentored by strong, nationally recognized, senior technical staff on various water and wastewater-related projects. Upon completion of this assignment and as part of our design services team, you will continue to work on water and wastewater treatment studies and designs. At that time, relocation to another location within the Southeast United States such Charlotte, Nashville, or Atlanta will be possible.

Our ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized and capable of working in a diverse team environment and handling multiple tasks with competing priorities. You will be working with technical staff and executing the following types of work:



  • Perform engineering work with the Process Mechanical Design Discipline team on water and wastewater projects at industrial facilities including treatment plants, pipelines, and pumping stations.
  • Work with teams on engineering designs, preparing reports, construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and equipment selection for various projects
  • Preliminary design activities such as studies, data analysis, and alternatives analyses
  • Preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspections as part of engineering services during construction
  • Conduct field work, such as site investigations, as necessary for various projects
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (Engineers, Designers)
  • Coordinate project work with geotechnical, architectural, process, civil, mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical engineers and consultants


Desired Skills and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field required
  • EIT Certification (Fundamentals of Engineering Exam)
  • Experience and/or coursework in water/wastewater treatment and conveyance preferred (up to 3 years)
  • Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and verbally
  • Good written and verbal communication skills essential.
  • Strong interest in developing water and wastewater treatment design skills
  • Experience with Projectwise, BIM 360 and Bluebeam is a plus
  • Experience using engineering calculation software (MathCAD) is a plus
  • Field/construction experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to use standard computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required


Salary Range:Theanticipatedstarting payrange for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and maybemore or lessdependingupon skills, experience,and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $80,000 - $109,000
